“The black one, please.”

“You think?”

“Umm yes, you’d look gorgeous.”

“Well okay, but if Castiel goes Godzilla, it’s all on you.”

“Yeah, it’s not like he’s going to kill me. He loves me way too much.”

“He’s my brother, not yours. I think I’d know him better.”

“I care?”

“You’re supposed to. As my best friend.”

“Can you shut up and not stall time? We’re already late.”

I rolled my eyes. Yes, I’d been stalling time. In all honesty, I didn’t want to go to this party. But apparently, I’d been cooped up way too long in the house, so my best friend, Raine, decided to take me out. The worst part? My brother agreed! Once Raine gives him her puppy dog face, he can’t seem to say no to her.

Raine has been living with us ever since both our parents died in the same plane crash. They’d gone to the Bahamas for an ‘Adult Vacation’, and well, they never came back. That was four years ago. Castiel had been eighteen then. He got our custody. Raine, unfortunately had nowhere to go. The only relative who showed up to take her custody was her uncle, who turned out to be a drug addict. The court ruled him out and Raine was supposed to be put in foster care. I don’t know what legal mumbo jumbo went on, what strings Castiel and my Dad’s best friend, to whom we haven’t talked in a long time, pulled, but Raine was allowed to live with us. Castiel was forced to give up his dream to become a neurosurgeon, take over Dad’s company, and take care of four growing children. Me, Raine and my two younger brothers. If he ever feels bitter about it, then he definitely doesn’t show it. He’s twenty-two now. And he needs to get a girlfriend. Or get laid. Either way, he’s needs to loosen up. He was always so protective if us, but ever since the plane crash was ruled out to be intentional, he is as protective as a firedrake hoarding its jewels. So, him letting us go to this party was kind of a big deal.

Though I’m not really sure how much he’s going to let us, after he sees our dresses.

We left the house, leaving a very ticked off Castiel behind. I was the designated driver for the night since I could hold my alcohol really well. Raine, on the other hand, would get tipsy on her second glass. I snorted to myself. How very ladylike. Raine kept giving me directions and I followed them blindly, until we reached a house. Scratch that. Mansion. Here we are. Huh, I’m not as excited as I was when we left. Oh well, I wasn’t excited that much to begin with, but still. Maybe Castiel was right. Maybe I shouldn’t go. Maybe this is a bad idea. I sat behind the wheel, and tried to calm myself, until Raine knocked on my side of the window. When did she get out?

“What are you waiting for? Get out.” She frowned down at me. Yes, down. Thanks to the low seating of my car. Speaking of which, I needed to find a safer spot to park this thing. I don’t want anyone throwing up accidentally on my baby. This car was a present from Cas on my seventeenth birthday. I’m as protective of this car as Cas is protective over us. After finding a safer spot for my baby to rest, we headed into the house. Raine, despite her promises to stay with me for the night, disappeared as soon as we entered. Mentally cursing her, I headed to the kitchen, to get something to drink. I leaned against a wall, beer in hand, and watched the people ‘dance’ on the makeshift dance floor. It wasn’t long before someone invaded my space. I just hoped he wasn’t a creep.

“Loner, or just tired?” A deep voice asked.

“A little bit of both.” I replied, without turning. I felt him lean against the wall next to me.

“Aren’t you worried someone might take advantage of you? In such a dark and lonely corner?”

I’d like to see them try. “Why? Are you planning to?”

“Well, in all honesty, if I did, you seem the type of girl who would send me home with a couple broken bones.”

I laughed. Smart guy. I turned to look at him, to find him already looking at me. My breath caught in my throat.

Keagan Harrington.

Yep, you guessed it right. Our school’s resident QB bad boy and heartbreaker. Oh, how very cliché. But I’d be lying if I said he wasn’t good-looking. He was beautiful beyond limits. Just imagine this: light brown hair, heterochromatic eyes, one blue, one green, pale complexion, high cheekbones, full pink lips. Add into the mix a complete lean and fully matured body, height reaching to six three, and a partially fake innocent look. Then top it with the scent of Old Spice and vanilla, and voila, ladies and gentlemen, we have an angel. Who’s really the devil, but who’s paying attention to common sense now? Well, not me.

Of course, I didn’t lose all my sense. And I definitely did not let any of my inner fangirl show on my face. I gave him a half smile.

“Harrington.”

“We go to the same school, I’m guessing. Cause I’d remember if we met before.” He replied.

“You guessed right.” I said. “I’ve been told to stay away from you.”

“Aren’t all the pretty ones asked to stay away?” He smirked.

“Well, can you blame us?” I half shrugged.

“No, not really.” He laughed. “Would you like to dance?”

I grinned at his indifference. “I just told you, I was supposed to stay away from you.”

“Oh, I don’t care.” He smirked. God help me. “Come on, it’s just a dance.”

“I don’t think it can ever be ‘just a dance’ with you Harrington. But okay, just one.”

My subconscious was yelling at me to not do this. But tonight, I rebelled. I threw caution out of the window and took his hand, letting him lead me to the dance floor. Just as we stepped on, the song changed to a slow, sexy beat. His hands automatically went to my waist and mine wound around his neck. His hands felt hot. As is they were being branded into my skin. As predicted, it wasn’t long before he leaned in, intentions quite clear. He stopped though, inches apart, silently asking for my consent. And me, who’d thrown all caution out of the window and lost all common sense, closed the distance.

We kissed, yeah. But it wasn’t like the ones with him. It wasn’t something we read about in books or see in movies. It wasn’t the spark everyone talked about.

Kissing Keagan was magic itself. Heat spread from his hands on my waist through my entire body, so intense that I could have powered the nation’s grid and combusted. After this kiss, I had a very intense gut feeling that there was no turning back. I don’t know if he felt it too, but he did try to pull me impossibly closer. One of his hands gripped my hair and tilted my head back, for better access. Mine knotted themselves in their thick hair. All of a sudden, he pulled away, and buried his face in my neck.

“I really don’t think you’d appreciate it if I take you upstairs right now. So, let’s get out of here before I do something rash, yeah?” He said, his warm breath skimming over my neck. They gave me shudders I hadn’t felt in a very long time.

I laughed and let him lead me out to the backyard, where there were only a very few people hanging around the pool. I said down at the edge of the pool and put my legs in. he sat don’t next to me, doing the same.

Suddenly, he laughed. I looked over at him, questioningly.

“I still don’t know your name.” he said, smiling.

I laughed, staring at the water, suddenly uneasy. He didn’t notice.

“Aren’t you going to tell me?”

I froze. People at school didn’t know who I was. I kept quite a low profile. People usually didn’t bother with me nor did I with them. I kept to myself, with only Della for company. Della is the only other person I’d dared to make friends with, in my time here.

“Nope.” I said.

“But why?” He asked.

“Maybe I want you to find it out yourself.” I said.

“Really?” He asked. “Is that a challenge?”

“Yep.”

“And if I win?”

“You won’t.”

“Your confidence is admirable.”

“Thank you. I should probably be leaving now.”

“It’s only eleven!”

“I know.”

He sighed.

“What am I to call you then?”

“I don’t know. Maybe you’ll have to keep a new one.”

“I hope you know I love a challenge.” He smirked.

“And I’m quite loving playing hard to get.”

“Alright. The least you can do is give me the first letter of your name. Let me get something original.”

First letter wouldn’t hurt, would it?

“C.” I simply replied.

“Cinda.”

“Short for Cinderella?” I snorted.

He looked at me sheepishly. I laughed.

“Yeah well whatever. I mean, you have to call me that.”

“Wait, no. Can I call you Nyx?” He suddenly asked.

“Call me what?” I looked at him, confused.

“Nyx. It’s the Greek Goddess of Night.”

“Why?”

“Well, honestly speaking, I’ve always been a sucker for dark haired girls.” He shrugged.

“That’s contradictory. You have a different blonde hanging off your arm every week.” I scoffed.

“Maybe it’s because I feel less guilty about sleeping with them.” He half shrugged.

“Okay, I guess.” I smiled. “It’s got a nice ring to it.”

Just then my phone rang. I’m betting my entire trust fund its Cas.

I sighed and waved my phone at Keagan.

“Duty calls baby. Gotta go.”

Obsidian: He's hilarious. Like, actually. I loved it. You're writing style is great, although you could do with a few less murmurs and mutters.
