Prologue
Blackness covered the whole room. It invaded every corner making the woman sitting in the middle uncomfortable, with masked horror she looked at anything that looked like light, something that would ease her nerves. Her wish came true, and a man dressed in a black suit came in, illuminating the narrow dungeon looking room. she observed him, what he looked like, his attire, his expression, she tried to place him in her mind, tried to categorize him in a group, since that’s what we do, produce labels, who goes in our list and who doesn’t, create a checklist, tick the squares that fit, mark them, store them in our memory, recheck them when necessary.
He was a middle aged man, grey haired, oily skinned, long beaked nose, thin, pale, lips, short neck, large belly, probably due to beer and short legs paired with nice shinny shoes. His eyes where dull grey, “same goes to his emotions” she thought. He sat in front of her, with a file in his hand, “no ring”, arose in her mind.
“I’m detective Arnold, and I’m here to take your statement.” He said, monotonously. “So Mam, do you know why you’re here?” Came his question, curiosity filled in his words. She didn’t utter a word, only looked at him, like his talking another language.
He was frantic, felt disrespected that’s the thing about Arnold, he was as calm as an African bee, “I’m going to ask you one more time, do you know why you’re here?” he barked
Nothing flew out of her.
Detective Arnold got mad, red faced he stomped out of his chair, “I won’t repeat myself, why did you kill your husband?”
“Because he murdered my daughter.” She shouted.
