Chapter 1

October 21, 2008

Unknown POV,

My mom was my first love. She was my everything. The waves to my heartbeat, the sunshine to my eyes; she was the one who gave me hope everyday. Now you may ask, “where’s daddy at”?, well folks that’s another story. My father wasn’t ever there for me until the soul eater took my mom. Her very own best friend. The one you never thought would kill her, the one who looked at her with heart eyes. At first I was shocked, I couldn’t breathe, nor see the future. It was like I was dead, I had no brightness to my eyes. As for now my life, my soul, and my heart was forever changed because of my mom, and now I’m seeking vengeance.

10 years later,

Brent Carter’s POV,

When I was a kid, I was innocent. I was free from the cruelties of the world. Until my dad came home one night looking very dishelived. I asked him, “Where were you, mom fixed dinner?”, but all I received was “nothing”, a meaningless nothing. As a kid that hurt, I was so used to my dad being happy , but after that event happened. I started to see other signs, more clues of him being more distant, more dark.

I would hear arguments in the house, that led to my mom leaving and divorcing my dad. At first I didn’t know what had happened but as time progressed I would finally know. I would still see my mom from time to time but it wasn’t like normal. As you figured I live with my dad, I was ok at first, I was a kid and I didn’t know anything about divorce. However when my dad stopped communicating with me and went to his work, I knew my dad was a different person. Not the same dad I grew to love. Now I’m not saying I hate my dad but something after that one day changed him and our relationship too.

————————————————————————-

“Yo Brent you ready for the game tonight man, you better be on it this time”, A teammate said.

“Yea I’m on it,”, I assured him.

“Aight well hurry up we gotta go to the practice before the game starts”, he said.

“Ok I’ll be out there, stop rushing me”, I said annoyed.

“Shit chill”, he said as he left.

As I stared in the locker’s room mirror, I noticed I looked just like my bastard of a dad. I had the same brown curly as him, the same light brown eyes as him, the same light skin as him; the same height as him too. I tried so very hard to get away from him, not knowing I can’t because I look and act just like him. As soon as I graduated high school, I left Maryland( where he was from), and moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, which is where I attend college( Ohio State University). Since I was offered a scholarship for football from OSU, I joined because I wanted to move as far away from dad as possible. Not knowing that I would be looking in this mirror, looking at my damn dad.

“Yo, got damn are you coming. Shit coach is going to bust ours and your ass if you don’t hurry, we got a game today. So hurry up and stop looking in the damn mirror like a little girl.” My best friend Caleb said.

“Alright, I’m coming”, I said as he pushed and pulled into the field for a deadly hour of practice.

Hours later,

Today is game day, right it’s game day. The day where most people dress up, when people are in high spirits, the day where I feel like I’m somebody. As I’m on the field playing, at the last quarter, the last second I see a face, an eye that catches my sight. More preferably a chick.

Hi, congratulations on starting your first book. The beginning is great, and we really get to understand what unknown person is feeling. Brent's story is OK too, but we would move into a new chapter right after the divorce. You have a repeated punctuation error.  Dialogue must be written like this: "You better get used to it," said Marty.  Note the placement of the comma after it, and before the speech marks, and the word said is not written with a capital letter although Marty is because it is a name.
