“Harper there you are! I’ve been looking all over for you dear!” Warden Topper says as he is walking up to me.

“I got lost. I’m so sorry I’m late especially on my first day.” I say with a sad smile, its bad enough I couldn’t find a job out of school so I had to take the first one that was offered to me so I could pay my rent, and it just happened to be one at a max security correctional center. That’s just my luck.

“Harper, it’s fine I understand this is a big place but thankfully you will only be in one wing now. Come along and follow me.” As I’m hurrying to catch up with him, I start to panic and ask questions.

“Um I thought I was going to be in years 18-25 intermediate? I don’t understand, you told I would have 3-4 halls all not high risk. What changed?” I ask with tears stinging my eyes.

“Well I filled that position with a man so they wouldn’t be as um how do I say this nicely um horny? Those boys have chased away many of our female psych doctors so I thought you would want a more low key hall.”

“Ok” I say quietly and follow behind him. As we finally reach my office and my hall, I notice that it’s really not a hall at all, just one room and then my office.

“I thought you said it was a hall?” I ask confused.

“Oh I meant you have one patient, that’s all but he’s not an easy one. You’ve probably heard of the name Lucas Ventaligo, a mafia don that went down in 2018, due to a mole in his operation. He is not a man you want to get on the bad side of. He is over here by himself because he is a big target being that we have other dons and different clans in this prison and they are all separated. If you do have any problems though, do not hesitate to call a guard or even me, he is a pretty well mattered man when it comes to women, men on the other hand... He’s straggled a guard, knifed a male nurse, but you my dear will be great. He personally requested you.”

“I.. Um.. I..” I stutter cause I can’t even get my words out, he’s is gonna chew me up and spit me out.

“Well dear have a wonderful day!” He says with a smile and runs off before I have a chance to say anything else.

He requested me? How did he even know I was here? Does he do the hiring, he’s a prisoner for gosh sakes.

I hear a knock on my door, “Come in!” I shout while looking down at the folder infant of me of the great Lucas Ventaligo.

“Ma’am it’s 1pm, time for your first meeting with Mr. Ventaligo. I have him right outside the door waiting whenever you are ready.” he says with a calm sweet smile, like I thought he might actually like me but I’m pretty sure its a pity smile.

“Shit” I mumble, “Uh yeah sorry I got lost track of time, you can send him in.” I say shyly. I was late cause I was hoping he wasn’t already planning my death.

Every now and then I get a little voice inside my head and I believe it’s my mother. I lost her a few years back due to a drive-by shooter and they never caught the man who did it. My dad was never in the picture, she always told me he was nothing but trouble and that it would come back to get her in the end. Who knows though..

I hear another knock at my door and my door fully opens and emerges a tall, light skinned, dark hair, dark eyed, man with tattoos all over his body from what I can tell and he was dressed in a sharp Armani black suit. Holy Lord of Jesus have mercy on my soul, because I’m truly fucked.
