It was my last day in Washington State prison, I'm glad to be away from that hell hole. It had been seven years since I was able to walk freely.

The warm, afternoon sunlight felt good on my skin. I smiled as I saw my sister roll up in her silver Toyota RAV4, just as I predicted, she wasn't very happy.

"How come they let you out?"

I sighed as I walked over and looked at her through the open car window.

"Didn't you hear? I only get seven years behind bars, JJ. Not for life."

"Well, it should be. Get that stupid smile off your face and get in."

"Thanks."

I mumbled as I sat in the passenger seat, I stared out the window, trying to avoid an upcoming rant from my sister.

"You know, Val, you're never doing this again. I don't care how much your next girlfriend pisses you off, you're not going back down that path."

I looked at my sister, she was being serious, and so was I. I had learnt my lesson! Its just difficult to get away from being called a 'monster' all the time.

"I know, I'm sorry for putting you all through this, its only my fault because I did this. You don't have anything to do with it."

My sister sipped on her latte as she stared at the road in front of us.

"That's not what humanity thinks of us... You missed mom's funeral because of it..."

Her voice had toned down, and I felt my insides crushing. I sighed as I knew where she was taking me.

"I'm sorry, Joy, at least they're together now... And we still have each other..."

I trailed off as she pulled up at the cemetery, we stepped out as she lead me up to our parents' graves.

JJ set down a few roses and sighed as she stared at the tombstone.

"You know, I thought you'd get on death row for what you did, but mom payed the price of God."

"No she didn't, he took her away from this shame."

JJ stood back up and gripped me into a hug, I returned the embrace as I heard a small sniff. Family or not, she always had my back, and I had done terrible things.

"Come on, we need to get you home before another woman calls the cops."

"Ew, you're my sister!"

It was good to see JJ laugh, I hadn't remembered her laughing like that in a long time. The air felt amazing, nice and fresh, my eyes had no limits of walls, or bars and wires. They said I could walk freely but my actions were being watched and limited.

"Hurry up, Jake!"

I smiled, as I rushed back up to the car to join my sister, her voice a reply of the song on the radio.

After today, everything around me will change into good things. I'll change, but I won't forget what happened.

Ku_Rolet: The novel was good, and I really enjoyed reading it. I love the leads and their bond, but I have one question that confused me. How could Tristan have been dreaming about his mate since he was a child if Omara was already mated to someone else before him? If Kyle had accepted Omara, would Tristan ne...

jo987_123: This is a good story, but it needs a good editor to go through this iteration and fix the mistakes. The pov changes from 1st person to 3rd person, often, and sometimes within one sentence. It needs a liberal sprinkling of punctuation marks throughout, and a decision needs to be made about the char...
