Chapter 1
Mom! Did you see my black jacket? I shouted
It is right there on your chair, honey. Mom replied.
It’s not here. I was fuming with rage.
She entered the room and grabbed the jacket from the chair and gave it to me. I’m supposed to cook, take care of your needs, and even give you things that are right there in front of you.
I swear, it wasn’t here.
Moms are magicians.
Shit! I forgot to introduce myself. My name is Dristi and it’s my first day of college. And, I’ve this lovely habit of doing things at the end moment.
You might have heard about this infamous engineering entrance exam named JEE-Mains and Advanced. Yeah, infamous because these exams take the lives of many students each year. For 2 years students go through tremendous stress and pressure.
Going to coaching centers and coming back, and traveling time can be as long as 2 hours. And, you are supposed to study for another 7-8 hours at home. Amazing, isn’t it? I will be writing this exam next to next year.
I’m in 11th grade. And, going to start this new journey where I’ll be exploring different things.
You might be thinking even after knowing all these things why am I getting myself into this? Well, my dad wants me to do this and I can’t say no. I’ve visited my coaching a week back and It’s pretty cool. But, it’s definitely different from my school.
So, basically here in India students get themselves enrolled in these coaching where you are enrolled in a dummy school, you just have to write the exams at the end of the year. For the entire year, you can focus on your entrance exams. Which is pretty cool in my opinion.
I did a little research before getting myself into this mess and I kinda feel I can do this. So, welcome to my life which is going to be fun, I hope so.
“Dristi, dad is waiting outside. Can you be fast, please?” Mom shouted.
Yeah! I’m coming. I replied.
You always make others wait. How many times, I’ve told you to prepare for things a night before. Mom said.
I’m sorry! It won’t happen again. I replied with a cute face.
Fine! Good luck with the first day. Mom said with excitement.
Dad was waiting in the car. I closed the door and ran towards the car while checking my bag.
I’ve been waiting forever here. Dad said aggressively.
Sorry! I replied softly.
Get in! We are getting late. Dad replied.
Dad handed me over a box.
What is this? I asked out of excitement.
Open it up! Dad said with a smile.
I ripped the paper apart. It was a watch. I opened the box. It was a rose-gold watch with shiny stones on the dial. It was looking amazing in the sunlight. Oh my god! It was the same watch which was in my wishlist.
Wait a second, it was in my wishlist. How do you know about this? I asked out of curiosity.
Well, the other day when I was using your laptop I saw it and ordered it. Dad replied, while his eyes were fixed on the road.
Gosh! You guys are insane. I said, laughing.
Do you like it? Dad asked.
I love it. I screamed.
It was an hour ride to college. Me and dad discussed politics, economy, and random stuff. As we started early we reached quite early because we did not encounter any traffic. Instead of taking me to the college, he took me to a temple nearby.
As we still have 30 more minutes. Let’s go up there. Dad said, raising an eyebrow.
Cool! I replied and threw my bag on the back seat.
After 20 minutes we came back to the car and he dropped me. We bid goodbyes and I turned towards the building.
It was a huge building with glass windows in the front and colored grey at the back. There was a parking place in front of the building and in the middle, there was a staircase leading inside the building. I smiled and started walking towards the building.
