Tommorrow I would be getting married to Emperor Lei. I was the chosen one. The one they said had the power to be the empress. The emperor was a man in his mid twenties. He was young, almost too young to be the emperor.
He was a wise man though, ahead of his age. He had long black hair, that rippled in the wind. I stared at my soon to be husband, he was sitting with many other emperors around the world and his mother.
They were discussing war affairs, that I wouldn't understand. I sighed as I waited for them to finish. We would have to discuss our wedding soon.
I looked into Emperor Lei's eyes, his eyes were a light purple. The purple was so light his eyes were often mistaken for the color red. He smiled at me.
I smiled back.
"Miss, the Emperor found a slave and brought her back to the palace."
I placed my book down.
"Oh? A slave?"
"Yes, Miss."
"Why should this concern me?"
My maid Trisha Ling was brushing my hair, she yanked on my hair harder than necessary.
"Miss, don't you see? You see him less and less since she showed up. Why, I do believe he is cheating on you!"
I smacked her arm.
"Trisha please avoid saying things like that, it could cost your life."
I heard her gulp.
"Sorry, miss."
I gestured for her to continue brushing my hair.
I picked up my book again, but I couldn't concentrate after what Trisha had said. Who was this mysterious slave?
I was in the garden reading. I hadn't seen the Emperor around in so long. It was infruriating. I was close to finishing the book when I suddenly heard rustling from a nearby bush.
"Who is there?"
A girl tumbled into the clearing. She was a small girl with delicate features. She was not pretty but she was cute. Very cute. With a small face, big eyes and puffy, long ashe brown hair.
"Who are you?"
She gasped.
"Are you the empress? I've wanted to meet you since I've been here! But I haven't had the chance to see or talk to you until now!"
I scowled, who was this insolent girl and who dare she talk to me without any formality?
"I asked who you are, I do not wish to repeat myself again."
She gasped again.
"I'm being rude, sorry for not introducing myself. I'm Amber Tao."
She stuck out her hand. I stood up, not acknowledging her hand. My maids rushed to my side.
Upon seeing the girl, Trisha and Alice gasped and pulled me away.
"Miss, you must stay away from that girl."
"Why?"
"She is the one who the Emperor brought in, he is most likely cheating on you for her!"
I turned back just in time to see the Emperor go to Amber. What was he doing?
My eyes widen in surprise as Amber broke down crying in Emperor Lei's arms. I heard their conversation.
"My Amber, please stop crying."
"Oh Emperor, I think the Empress hates me!"
"Why is that?"
"Sh-she glared at me!"
"Sweet Amber, I will talk with the Empress. Now come with me."
I turned away from them and continued walking. My maids looked at each other nervously and followed me.
In my chamber I let my hair cascade down my back. Long H/c locks tumbled over my shoulders. I sighed as I looked at my reflection.
Did the prince not like me anymore? Has he moved on?
Suddenly there was a knock at my door.
"Come in"
A man walked in and said,
"It's time for dinner, Miss."
I nodded and my maids helped me change into a light blue dress that was backless.
At Dinner
"Y/n"
I stopped eating.
"Yes, Emperor?"
He set down his wine glass.
"I heard that you met the girl I brought to the palace."
I clenched my jaw.
"Indeed I have, Amber. Is that right?"
"Amber indeed. I also heard that you have been rude to her?"
"I assure you I have not done anything wrong."
He shook his head.
"Y/n L/n I ask again, were you rude to her."
I froze in my seat.
"Yes."
"Well assure that never happens again."
I nodded.
"I assure you that, that will never happen again."
Satisfied with my answer he left the table. His dinner, untouched.
"I fear that you may be right, Trisha."
Trisha stopped putting rose petals in my bath.
"Right about what ma'am?"
"I think that the Emperor will make Amber his mistress."
Trisha dropped her basket of rose petals with a loud thunk.
"He told you that, Miss?"
"No, but I fear that it will happen."
"Ma'am, the Emperor is no good for you. You are too good for him."
I chuckle.
"No Trisha, don't think that. It is natural for Emperors to have mistresses. I am just overreacting."
Trisha picked up her basket.
"I disagree."
"Trisha it is not your nor my say. My mother once told me a good queen or empress must be prepared for a man to get mistresses."
Trisha shook her head but made no further comment.
The Next Day
"Miss, the Emperor is asking for you."
I set down my fan and nod. The man escorted me to Emperor Lei's study.
I pushed open the door. I saw the Emperor seated with Amber.
"You asked for me?"
"Yes, I just wanted to tell you that Amber will be my new mistress. I will need your approval."
I knew that the Emperor in fact didn't need my approval to turn Anber into his mistress.
"I approve, may I leave now?"
His eyes widen in surprise. Like he thought I might put up a fight.
He smiled
"Yes, you may go now."
Beside him Amber smirked and clung onto the Emperor like a helpless koala.
