Chapter 1

Bang! Bang! Bang! Went the fireworks. We stood underneath the bright lit up sky with our faces upturned to the sky.

It was the Fourth of July and we had had a wonderful night.

It was a full moon and everyone was having a blast.

There were so many humans around it was almost easy pickings for me.

The smell of them so enticingly sweet it made me hungry.

It was the last of the fireworks and everyone was headed to the main entrance of the football field gates.

They wanted to get out before the big rush happened and it took forever to get out.

Benjamin stood beside me and we looked at each other.

The full moon for us was a time for feeding but we didn't do it were we lived.

We had to stay hidden from everyone as to keep our secret safe.

We took our chance to head out as soon as the last bang sounded.

We walked quickly to our car and got in.

There was a forest just down the road and we hunted there.

We tried our best not to feed on humans because of the small population.

"Benny? Can we make this quick I have a English term paper due on Monday and i haven't even started on it?" I asked.

"Yeah sure babe whatever you want," he replied.

"Thanks babe! Your the best!," I replied.

"Sarah do you think we can go out Saturday night?" Benny asked.

I scratched my head thinking about it and told him i didn't know that I would have to think about it.

This term paper was 45 percent of her grade and she couldn't afford to fail.

Benny lowered his head and said that he understood and pulled out heading towards the forest.

We lived in a town called Swaneville in North Carolina.

It was peaceful here.

We loved the fresh air and seclusion of this little town.

Before we moved here we lived in California and the people were starting to figure us out.

We can walk in the daylight with a little sunscreen on and it wont bother us.

A lot of superstitions say that we cant be put in the daylight.

Not true. Here we could go to the forest and walk around in the trees without it and be just fine.

We only drink from animals there and we try to resist the urges for human blood.

But when the full moon rises our thirst is much harder to control.

Benny and I are mates and we met over 50 years ago.

But this town didn't know that.

We are newly transformed vampires.

Our sire was caught and burned and we were out looking for a new place to call home.

The school bell sounded and that signaled school had started.

I sat in my first period class not paying attention to the science teacher rattle on.

I had my extra sensory hearing zoned in on the conversation going on behind me.

Two girls were quietly whispering about a boy they thought was cute.

They said he had dark hair blue eyes.

He was very light skinned and he was very muscular.

I had thought college would have changed these girls from acting like high a schoolers.

Guess not. They carried on and on about this guy until I heard the name Ben.

My blood started to boil at that point.

We vampires are very possessive and keep our partners for life.

I slowly turned around and glared at them.

They didn't like the way I was looking at them and they shut up.

Better have or I would have smacked them both.

I, by the time the class ended, had become so angry that I wanted to storm out of the class in a quick fashion.

Oh I was pissed. But the thing is we don't show ourselves as a couple in school just to keep it safe.

But Benjamin knew better than to bring the college girls home.

That was a big no go.

I had guys hitting on me all the time but I never paid any attention to them.

I had long black hair and hazel blue eyes.

I did not dress to stand out and i did not draw attention to myself.

I pretty much kept to myself.

I loved science and my course of study here at this college was Biology.

"Miss Randle i would like it very much if you paid attention," the angry teacher called out.

Great. Just great. Called out. Now i had been zoneing out and the teacher had called on me.

I heard the irritated teacher huff and began his lecture again.

I needed to pay attention or id flunk this class.

Benjamin pov

"Dude did you see that hottie that just walked by", Justin asked.

I was busy with my nose in my trig book trying to study up on a test i had coming up in the next class.

I needed to concentrate on this and Justin was just being a douche and pointing out girls.

He was the captain of the college football team and had a scholarship to attend this school.

He was the boy toy on campus.

He got his easy where as I had had to work hard to get mine.

Was kind of jealous he got it so easy but you know we cant go out for sports because we would be exposed.

We are just to fast.

"You coming to Wendys party tonight?" Justin asked.

I looked up irritated and just glared at him willing him to shut up and leave me alone.

Technically I cant control minds or talk to another person unless I want them to but I really need him to get lost.

He saw my look and threw his hands up and said "fine suit yourself bring Sarah don't bring Sarah its up to you man. But there is going to be beer, woman and food." Starts up at 7 if you wanna go," he said.

In truth I didn't really want to go but I had to keep with appearances. I had to be social to fit in.

Sarah was the loner by choice.

I closed the book and stuffed it into my bag and got up.

When I got up I heard the bell sound to let out the classes and I headed to find Sarah.
