Introduction
I took a sip from the cool glass of water as I waited for my blind date to arrive at the café near my house. Suddenly my phone moved to the side as it vibrated to the message that was sent to me.
I clicked on the message and read to myself:
How is he? Does he look nice? Is he being nice to you?
I laughed and texted back:
I have no idea. He hasn’t arrived yet.
Just as I pressed the send button, I felt someone approach me. Looking up, I found myself staring at quite a familiar face. Not that of someone I know personally, but someone I’ve seen many times before without ever revealing my existence.
“Ymra?” he asked as he examined me from head to down.
I stood up and with a slight laugh answered, “Yes, that’s me! Nice to meet you in person! I’ve only seen you on T.V! Am I being pranked?”
I looked around for a hidden camera but found none.
He chuckles and motions me to sit down, “No hidden cameras. This is real.”
I fumbled as I tried to sit down, “Woah! For real? This isn’t a dream? I mean when I read your name, I didn't actually think it would be you!” I pinched myself to make sure that I was fully awake. I shut my eyes and opened them back up after a few seconds, but he was still sitting in front of me.
“Ya! I’m real! Look! Poke me if you want!" He stretched his arm out for me to poke.
I waved my hands, “no! I’m fine! I need to stop before I make you go away!” I laughed in embarrassment.
He chuckled and then sighed, “Is there anything you would like to drink other than water?”
I shook my head, “If it’s ok with you, I wanted to go for a walk to a place that I love to go to during this time of night. I know that it’s our first time meeting, but I prefer something more than just coffee and talking. I was thinking eating, drinking, conversing, and having something more fun to do if you don’t mind.”
Suddenly I thought maybe what I said sounded wrong. Shaking my hands to erase any misunderstanding I said, “I’m not going to kidnap you or anything! I wouldn’t be able to do such thing to someone!”
I sighed for making a mess of myself, “You know what? It’s ok. You don’t have to agree. You probably shouldn't trust someone you barely met.” I bit my lip and looked outside the window in embarrassment.
I heard him chuckle, “Let’s do it.” Standing up, he said. “Where to?”
“About a block from here.” I stood up smiling happily as our story commenced.
