"Rodriguez is back in town"

Those words kept ringing in Onika's head,she had just received a phonecall from a friend back in highschool,well,wasn't really a friend just a seatmate who knew about her and Lucas Rodriguez.

Her heart beat went from steady to faster as excitement built within her,and her breathing laboured,he was back. Lucas was back after so many years.

She stopped panicking all of a sudden,the tears that was threatening to fall,halted. She found herself latching back on the hatred she had in her heart for him, the hatred he filled her heart with. It was still fresh in her mind like it was just the day before.

Flashback............

"We should go back now, granny will be worried" onika giggled rolling over the short green grass,due to the sudden tickle attack from lucas.

The young teenager pushed back his bright blonde,his once grinning face turning mild. "Stay for a bit", he playfully tugged at her ear.

Onika yelped at the impact,before slapping his shoulder "I wish I could but I can't leave granny for too long,besides we've been here all day,it's past six now"

She got to her feet, looking down at Lucas,the wild wind blowing her natural red hair, stretching her hand to him,she motioned for him to get up

He smirked, pulling her down by her hand. She landed full force atop him,his arms securing around her waist."I really don't want to go home now,I wanna spend more time with you"

Onika blushed,her pale face turning a bit red,she cleared her throat,and sat straight away from his embrace.

" We see each other every day luc" she looked around the environment they were currently in,it was sort of creepy. Tall bulky trees made canopy over them,the only thing less intimidating was the small clean lake.

Lucas had discovered the place earlier before then,it was his idea for them to spend the weekend there, although onika refused because she was scared of the woods,but he promised it was safe.

Now that she was there,she felt lively and peaceful.

"What if the bears come at us?" Onika teased

"I would gladly tear them to shreds with my bare hands" he laughed " but so unfortunate that I won't be able to show off my strength and skills, because,bears don't live here,it's totally safe".

She sighed, shoveling at him,she got back to her feet," c'mon don't be a cry baby,and let's go"

He finally got to his feet, running his fingers into his spiked hair, he shot her a playful glare " you're the worst best friend ever"

"I definitely can say the same here" she gave out a healthy laugh.

They walked back to the main town,saying tons of annoying yet funny words to each other,after walking a few blocks, they reached a two storyhouse,with a driveway to it's left and a garden to it's right,it wasn't too fancy neither was it looking poor. It was Onika's home.

" I'm home now,you should probably head back home too,you don't want your mom calling me" she laughed "Mama's boy"

"Get your scrawny ass in Nikki" he muttered,his face up in a scrowl.

She chuckled, turning to leave, just then he halted her steps by grabbing on to her forearm. She turned to give him a questioning look.

"Hm....... Nikki,can we........ like meet at the lake by Monday after school ?" His blue eyes looked everywhere except her face

" The place gives me creeps,let's just meet at the icecream store or something"

"Noo.......don't worry nothing bad is gonna happen to you.....I promise. I just need to tell you something"

Onika's brows dipped "okay then". Her voice laced with confusion.". We call it a night then?"

He gave her a light kiss on the lips,"Have a pleasant night" he didn't wait for a reaction,he simply turned and left

Onika was still rigid to her spot,her cheeks were turning hot,and her heart was beating so fast.

Did he just kiss her or was she imagining things? Of course he did!

She found herself smiling as she entered into her home with happy thoughts flowing through her mind. She liked him, obviously more than a friend, but she was too scared to say anything that could end their friendship if he didn't feel the same . But seeing the way he was stuttering and avoided her gaze made her believe he was starting to have feelings for her or so she thought.

Onika's mind was basically not in school,she had her head filled with what Lucas could possibly want to say to her,she was excited,but tried to stay calm ,maybe it wasn't what she was thinking it would be.

Soon the day flew by,after hours of deciding what dress to wear,she finally wore a pink strapless sundress that reached above her kneecaps. She bade her grandmother and took off to their said destination.

Onika got to the spot, only to see no sight of lucas,she felt a bit disappointed. He missed school,she tried his cell phone but it kept going straight to his voicemail,so she thought maybe he had come to the spot to perhaps do some nice setup or decoration, but meeting the area as it was before gave her a bit disappointment.

She sat down on the green grass and waited quietly, looking around her suspiciously,still not over the fact that a bear could pounce on her at anytime.

Minutes turned into hours,and soon the sun began to disappear behind the dark clouds as the atmosphere began to succumb to the darkness of the night.

Too scared to stay anymore,she began to get up, only to stop,when a rumble was heard in the bushes

"Who ....is...is the...there !" She stammered trembling slightly.Lucas popped out of the bushes,and relief washed through her. She hurriedly hugged him tight,"where were you! I was so scared, don't ever do that again!" she nearly cried.

He yanked her hands off startling her "Don't worry,it won't happen again because this the last time you'd ever see me !"His voice aggressive with malice.

Onika took a step back, studying his appearance, something was definitely off, his once spiked hair,was now shaven and his eyes looked tired like he'd been crying. She noticed something else that she never imagine he would ever do, drinking. He reeked of alcohol.

"What are you saying? Did you drink?" She asked worriedly,this was the first time she'd see him like this.

His lips pressed in a thin line.

"Onika I can't be friends with you anymore...." He looked dead in her eyes, showing no sign of emotion.

Onika's breath hitched,she knew he was serious,he only says her full name when he's serious. "What? I don't understand"

"That's one of the things I hate about you,you're just so dumb,it's not like I'm speaking Japanese here!!!" He yelled so loud she took a step back in shock.

Tears she didn't know had formed in her eyes rolled down her cheeks, "Luc,what did I do wrong? Did I say something wrong last Saturday?"

"No,I just grew tired of you. You're a loner,and sticking with you is really demeaning, you're too boring for my lifestyle"

Truth to be told,he was the only friend she had, morelike the only person she had asides her grandma "We can work it out,we can go to parties with your other friends,I will mingle,I will totally change my dumb ways,just don't do this!"

"You're so unbelievable! Always whining like a child,I'm sure your whining was what drove your mother to her death". He felt it before it came. A resounding slap.

She clenched her stinging palm back to her chest,she had just slapped him."Lucas...."

"Save it! That's it!" He yelled " I don't ever want to see your disgusting face again!"

"I should be the one mad at you.... Not the other way around!" She was crying loudly,but what she was feeling was total rage.

"Just stop your attitude, before you end up killing your grandma!"

"Lucas!!" She yelled as she attempted to slap him again,but he caught her hand midway,and squeezed her wrist.

"Avoid me! Don't even look my way in public,Don't even dare say hi to me in school cause if you do,I will fuckin humiliate you!!!" He yanked her wrist away and turned on his heels

"Lucas! Lucas!!!" She watched as he disappeared back into the woods. She fell to the knees,and wept bitterly " I hate you!!!".

Despite her break down,she hurried to start her way back home, she had let Lucas hurt her but she wouldn't let a bear eat her.

The next morning,she really didn't want to go to school,but her grandmother would ask what was wrong,and she wasn't ready to bore her with her stupid friendship that didn't work out.

Immediately she walked through the double doors of the hallways,she started noticing weird looks from other students and It wasn't surprising.

Before her friendship with lucas,she had lots of bullies,but Lucas got rid of them, besides he was the captain of the lacrosse team,they dreaded coming close to her because of him.

Onika ignored the glares and stares from everyone as she made way to her locker

"Hey onika Martin!"

She turned to see Mark,one of Lucas's friend. She wondered what he wanted because they never really talked. "Hi"

He smirked leaning against her locker

"so is it true?"

"What's that?" She looked at him .

"That Lucas ended his friendship with you because you fell for him,and was trying to force yourself on him" He smirked

"No!!! That's not true!!" She yelled,her heart nearly stopping.

"Well,I don't believe you because he actually said so himself" he muttered looking all over her

"No,he is lying!!"

"Yeah right,the logical answer" He laughed, erupting more laughter from the crowd that had formed around them.

"I have nothing to say to you, if that was true he'd be here saying it to my face,but it's all a lie! He's just a coward!!!" With that she ran back out of the hallways.

She looked everywhere for lucas. How could he spread ridiculous rumors around like that,she did like him,but would never do what he said she did.

After on,she finally realized he wasn't present at school,so she decided to skip school as well and headed straight to his place. She wanted to give him a piece of her mind,hell she was mad.

She got to their huge gate and madly banged at it till his mother came out of their luxurious home.

The blonde petite lady opened up the gates,her greyish eyes were a bit swollen and bloodshot,it was obvious she had been crying.

"Hi Nikki, how are you" the lady spoke,her voice thick with Russian ascent.

"Good afternoon ma'am,I'm fine. Is Lucas in?"

Immediately the question slipped from onika,the lady whimpered "Lucas......Lucas left this morning.... His father had come to pick him."

Oh. Lucas had a father?

"Okay,when will he be back?"

"He's not coming back,he went back to Bogotá in Colombia with his father....... didn't he tell you?"

Onika couldn't believe her ears,what exactly has she done wrong to get this sort of reaction from him. He left the country,and didn't bother to tell her.

"It's fine,I just wanted to return his note,but I guess he won't be needing it. Good bye ma'am" . She turned and left,not bothering to hear a response.

Never again will she let someone hurt her this much. The love she had for him turned to an endless hatred.
