Have a Good Day !
Anna’s PoV
It is the first day of 10th Standard in my school. Even though I have been studying in this school since the past 12 years (including nursery and preschool of course), first days always make me excited. I look forward to making new friends even though there is little chance of that. Reason? Rumours which have been spread by jerks who have nothing better to do than act on jealousy. All older my friends have shifted to various places and schools. The fact that I am shy and an introvert doesn't exactly help me in making friends.
I gaze in the direction of light illuminating my room.I love watching the sunshine from my window.
"Hey sweetie. Hope you slept well. Now come and have your breakfast."I can hear mom from the kitchen.
I quickly freshen up and get ready for school. On the way to the dining room, I see dad reading today's newspaper.
"Good morning pops."
"Good morning young scientist, come give your dad a hug."
I happily do so. I love both my parents but I have always been a daddy's girl.
My mom chuckles "All the love for your dad, nothing for your mom, huh?"
"Mom, that's not true. Come here."
I wrap her in a bear hug too. I love my family more than anything else in this world.
Dad says jokingly " You are just jealous Sannah."
"Of course I am Oliver, I am the one who helps her with all the homework and you do nothing. Yet she has taken quite a liking to you." Mom teases dad.
I quickly eat breakfast as mom and dad talk to each other. That's what I admire about their relationship...they talk to each other....communicate. Though they do have their fights and struggles they always make it out stronger than before.
"I am done with breakfast, guys."
"Anna, finish your bread."
One would think she was looking at me the entire time I ate but that's not the case. She just knows me too well.
"Fine mom. I reply." I don't have anything against bread. I just don't like it with eggs.
"Good. You always eat the eggs and leave the bread. " Mom says in an accusatory tone.
"Anna, don't you wish we had a pet whom you could feed off that bread? " Dad says.
"Dad that's not gonna work. You will have to convince mom on your own for a pet."
Dad has always wanted a four legged companion....mom, on the other hand, is not to fond of the idea. And one thing I have learnt as an only child is never, I repeat, never take sides in case of your parents .It won't end well for you.
As mom and dad get into an argument about the necessity of pets, I organise my books and keep the house keys in my bag.
I step out of my room and find mom and dad kissing each other.
I clear my throat, "Eww mom and dad. That's my cue to leave. Bye ." Their display of affection for each other in front of me makes me all awkward.
Dad just laughs and mom looks embarrassed.
"Bye, sweetie."
"Have a good day. "
I hear mom and dad as I move out the door.
The bus would be here in five minutes. I am in time. I sit down on the bench as I wait for the bus.
Davis’s PoV
"Just five more minutes mom!" I yell as mom pulls the blanket from my body. I know what comes next. She sets the fan at the highest speed and switches the AC on. I sigh...having no choice but to get up.
"Davis, I swear to God if you aren't out of the bed in thirty seconds...."
I jump up from my bed because the voice belongs to my dad...who won't hesitate to punish me. I also don't want them to suspect my outing last night.
I see a satisfied smirk on his face and hurriedly rush to shower.
When I come out , I glance at the time. "Shit! I am late."
"Davis no bad words in my house." Mom says sternly.
"You missed the bus on the first day of school itself. Come, I will drop you. I expect that you will be on time from tomorrow."
"Yes mom."
Dad hands me my lunch and I shove it in my backpack. I manage to stuff a couple of books as well. "Mom I am ready."
Dad says, " She's already in the car waiting for you. Go fast."
I rush down the stairs and sit in the car. Mom starts driving and we sit in silence. We shifted to this locality recently...because it's closer to mom's office.
I am still adjusting to the change...it's a little difficult since we were living at our previous house since seven years. I only hope I take a liking to this place soon. I never liked changes, I don't think I ever will.
I love my parents but they are always distant . They are happy together, don't get me wrong, but we spend very little time as a family. They are constantly busy with work. They are super organised and their lives appear perfect. But to make up for it I have my group of friends. We treat each other like family. We are considered the cool ones in school. I honestly don't care about that...I am just happy that we friends are supportive of each other.
Mom pulls in front of the school and I rush through the gate, to find that the morning assembly is already over. It's the first day of school so the late comers are freed with just a warning.
My class is 10th B, 3rd floor. I move up the stairs as fast as I can and by the time I reach the class I am out of breath.
