Chapter 1
Once upon a time there lived a king and a queen whose only wish was to have a child of their own. After years of waiting,they finally had a beautiful baby girl named Elizabeth!All the good fairies from the kingdom were invited to meet the baby. However,there was one bad fairy who was very unkind and she did not get an invitation.
The fairies arrived,one by one and gave the princess gifts of beauty,grace and kindness. As the last good fairy was about to give Elizabeth a gift,the bad fairy burst into the room!She was very angry that she had not been invited!To punish the king and the queen she cast a spell over little Elizabeth. "On the child's tenth birthday she will prick her fungi on a spinning wheel. She will then go to sleep.....forever!"And with that she vanished from the Castle!
CHAPTER 2
Everyone was very upset about the horrible spell and the queen started to sob aloud!However,all was not lost. The very last fairy who had not yet given Elizabeth a gift fluttered forward to the Queen side. "Do not cry my Queen,"She said. "I cannot undo this spell but I can change it. When Elizabeth is ten she will prick her finger on a spinning wheel but she will not sleep forever,only for one hundred years. When a brave prince finds his way to the castle and falls in love with the princess,the spell will be broken. " The Queen dried her tears and thanked the fairy for her help.
The next day,the king and queen decided that there should be no spinning wheels in their kingdom so that the princess would never find one to prick herself upon. The people of the town made a huge fire in the square,and burnt every spinning wheel they could find.
CHAPTER 3
Ten years later,the princess had grown up to be quite lovely. On the day of her tenth birthday,she was wandering around the castle. As she climbed some stairs,she saw a door that she'd never seen before and decided to open it. Inside the room she found a grey-haired old day at a spinning wheel.
The old lady had been spinning wool in the room for exactly sixteen years and had never heard the King's law that all spinning wheels should be burned. "That looks fun"said Elizabeth as she stepped closer. "Would you like to have a try?"asked the little old lady. The princess quickly nodded but the moment she touched the wheel,her hand slipped and she pricked her finger upon the needle. Before Elizabeth could say a word,she fell to the floor in a deep sleep.
CHAPTER 4
The old lady was shocked and called for help. When the King and Queen saw their daughter they were very worried. The King carried her to her bedroom at the top of the tallest tower and lay her on the bed.
From far away the good fairy heard the news and came to see the princess sleeping in the tower. "What a beauty she looks,"the fairy signed. The good fairy decided that it would be for the best if she cast a sleeping spell over every one in the castle so that when Elizabeth finally awoke,she would have all her friends and family around her. As the fairy wove her magic,the King and Queen fell asleep on their thrones,the cooks fell asleep in the kitchen,the horses dozed off in the stables,even Elizabeth's little puppy fell silently asleep at the end of the bed. And they all stayed that way for one hundred years.
CHAPTER 5
Years passed, and the castle became overgrown with thorns and bushes, and from the forest, all that could be seen was the tallest tower where Elizabeth lay. One fine day, a young prince named Prince Karim was riding his horse through the forest. He saw a tall tower in the distance and wondered who lived there. He decided to ride towards it.
Karim had to use his sword to cut away all the brambles and thrones. Finally he came across the castle and made his way inside. As he walked through the grounds he saw that everyone was sleeping. "Why are you all asleep?Wake up "he cried,but they all slept on. Eventually Karim came to the tallest tower where Elizabeth lay and began to climb the winding staircase. When he reached the top of the stairs he saw Elizabeth lying on her bed.
CHAPTER 6
Prince Karim thought she was the most beautiful girl he had ever seen!He crept closer,gave Elizabeth a kiss upon the lips and whispered in her ear that he had fallen in love with her. As Karim spoke, Elizabeth's eyes slowly opened. After one hundred years she was awake!Prince Karim had broken the bad fairy's spell!Now that Karim has awoken Elizabeth,everyone else in the castle began to stir.
Prince Karim asked Princess Elizabeth to be his bride and they decided to get married that very evening. The King and the Queen were delighted to hear the news and told the cooks to prepare a huge weeding feast as,after one hundred years,everybody was very hungry!That evening Karim and Elizabeth were married and everyone had the finest weeding feast the Kingdom had ever seen!
