Chapter 1 << BLAIRE >>
“Mom,” I said as I stepped over the useless knick knacks that filled our living room. “We need to get rid of some things!”
“I know honey, your room is a mess!” Mom yelled from the top of the landing.
“No Mom, your stuff. I can barely move in here!” I spat, playishly eyeing my mom as she slid down the stairs. “I can’t believe it’s almost the end of summer break!” I exclaimed, changing the subject. “I can’t wait to meet up with the other club members again! We haven’t seen each other in sooo long because they all went on summe-”
“I guess I could get rid of some things...”
“Mom! Are you even listening?”
“Sorry honey, what were you saying?”
“Oh my gosh! I can’t believe you! You are standing right next to me and can’t even listen to what I’m saying!” I stormed off to my room and tumbled on to my bed. I heard a knock at my bedroom door but I knew it was Mom so I didn’t answer. “Honey?” Mom said through the door. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean it. I have just been really out of it lately. I’m really sorry though...” I heard her walk off after a while since I didn’t dare make a sound. I wanted her to know how upset I was that she couldn’t even listen to my feelings.
*Buzzz*
I looked down at my phone to see that Sarah, the co-owner of the club I started had texted me. It said, “Hey Blaire! Check out this video of Justin! He tooooootally likes you!” I texted her back. I didn’t want her to know I was mad right now, and I tried to sound as normal as ever. “Kinda busy right now, Sarah, but yeah I’ll check it out in a bit…” I must have sounded as usual because she texted back “Okay, lemme know what you think when you see it!” Just as I finished reading her text I heard a giant THUD coming from downstairs. I ran down to see my little sister Emily hovering over Mom.
“911, what’s your emergency?”
“I found my mom laying on the floor, I can’t tell if she’s breathing or not!”
“Okay sweetie, I need you to just breathe in and out three times for me okay?” I breathed in as her soothing voice filled my head with calmness. “Innnn, ouuuut. Innnn, ouuuut. Innnn, ouuuut. Okay sweetie, now take your index finger and your middle finger, and put them together just underneath your mom’s chin.” I did as she said. “Now, do you feel a beat in your fingers?”
“N- no, I don’t.” I responded, as I shook with fear.
“Sweetie, I need you to tell me your address please.”
“...Sweetie?”
