Chapter 1

My world had turned upside down overnight. There was a global pandemic killing thousands, California wildfires were on the horizon, and there were only more tragedies to come. Yet through it all, I could only think of one person, the boy who lived 2,000 miles away.

You’re probably wondering lots of things by now. Well for starters, I’m Mia Jackwell, the star struck lover who’s diary you’re for some reason reading. And yes, it’s true, I’m obsessed with a boy online who doesn’t even know my name, but more on that later, I just got quarantined for goodness sake!

The past few months have been a rollercoaster. First, the virus struck. Soon after, businesses shut down, and we were all told to quarantine. Of course, it’s not all bad, I still have my phone and diary. Well, not that bad for me anyways. My brother on the other hand, isn’t taking things so well. Actually, that’s an understatement, he’s losing it people, losing it! I thought I was overreacting, but Jacob has been freaking out about not being able to go anywhere or see his friends. Crazy, I know, I didn’t think he had friends either.

After weeks of listening to the moans and groans of my family members, I decided it was time to make some friends! There was just one itsy bitsy problem… I was sort of stuck inside for who knows how long. So, instead of making friends at school like you’d normally do, I turned to the internet. Specifically, a site called Piazcord! I met so many amazing people on there and made unbreakable bonds with them. But, there was one person in particular who stuck out.

I remember the exact day I met Nate, he was so caring and compassionate, everything you’d want. Personally, I called it love at first sight, but the feelings weren’t exactly mutual. Over the next few months, I got to know him, and we became really good friends. Then, Ellie came along. She was always in the chat room and all over Nate. If anything made me more mad than listening to my 16 year-old brother whine about quarantine, this was it. Someone was getting in the way of me talking to my best friend! Not to mention, she was only nice to him. Simply put, I hated her, but not because of anything she did, but because I couldn’t get over my crush on Nate.

Not even two weeks later, he fell for her, hard. My best friend and the girl I hated were dating?? I couldn’t bear to watch it unfold, but everyone else was fine with it, so I had to pretend I was fine with it. But of course, he was still my friend, and whatever made him happy made me happy too. At least, I wanted it to, but some things are easier said than done.
