Thanks for reading.

Enjoy!

Sometimes Mom would tell him stories as she was torturing him one of the cells.

She would tell him about the first and most ruthless of their clan.

The couple that had started it all. Killua's great grandparents.

Maka and Soul Zoldyck.

Two who had once been protectors of life rather than the destroyers of it. Soul the weapon and Maka the master.

All following members of the Zoldyck family had inherited Soul's ability to some extent, though some had more access to it than others.

They had both originally gone by different names. Maka Albarn and Soul Evans. They had changed their names after the marriage and their collective decision to switch sides.

So, naturally, Killua despised the very idea of them.

If they hadn't decided to switch their sides, maybe Killua would be a normal kid, with normal parents and a normal life, with friends. Maybe his parents would've been willing to let him have friends. He wanted to have friends.

Which was why he'd been so scared when his brother had threatened Gon.

He sometimes wondered if Maka and Soul had had friends. People they cared about and wanted to protect before they turned bad. He wondered why they'd turned bad, even though his mom had told him before.

"You can't have friends because when they die because of you, you'll make a rash decision, just like your great grandparents." She had told him.

He wondered what their friends were like and how much they actually cared to switch sides completely as soon as they had died.

Grandpa had told him about them as well. How their eyes had always softened when their friends were brought into conversation. They became real humans again, if only momentarily.

But Killua wasn't like them.

Got wouldn't die.

And if Gon did, he wouldn't resort to murder.

Would he?

Because he wanted to murder the snake lady holding Gon by the throat.

"You're descended from my greatest experiments, you know that?" She hissed and gave Gon to one of her snake pets.

"Soul Eater was so much fun to toy with but Maka Albarn... now that's some resilient prey. She never gave up, until eventually I broke her. I killed her dearest friends, sparing Soul Eater of course, but you should have seen the look in her eyes when I told her they were dead. At first she didn't believe me, but I eventually showed her their bodies, and she just snapped. You see, Soul Eater was already long past his sanity and when she realized this, she thought they would make the perfect killers. There was no logic behind the choice to get married and change names, but they did it anyway. But breaking them was some of the most fun I've ever had, so I've been watching your family for a while. Looking for the one who acted most like Maka and Soul back when they were good and happy." She smiled malevolently as she licked her lips.

"And now I've found you."

She waved her hand and the snake tightened it's grip on Gon's throat.

"Let's see if I can get you to snap."

How could Tristan have been dreaming about his mate since he was a child if Omara was already mated to someone else before him? If Kyle had accepted Omara, would Tristan ne...
