Regret

I do not own FMA or the cover image.

Five years ago, two boys tried to bring back their little sister, who died of the same sickness as their mother.

They failed.

Now all that remains of her is a homunculus, crafted in her image.

A mere imitation of the girl these boys once loved.

She is a reminder, a symbol to them.

Every time they look at her, she reminds them of what they gave to create her.

They didn't want to create her.

And she knew it.

She watched the boys as Edward received auto mail, and as Alphonse spent his nights alone. She watched him from just out of his sight. Learning his fears, his emotions, his desires. That was her talent. Analysis.

She hated the look they would give her. She hated the way Edward would hesitate when he said the name of his little sister. The girl she was based on, but wasn't the same.

Her name wasn't Emily Elric any more.

No matter how much the brothers wanted it.

Because now she couldn't die, now she couldn't be injured, she couldn't get sick.

She even had trouble feeling the human emotion of remorse.

But her humanity hadn't completely abandoned her. She still felt a deep care for the boys who had given her life. Although it was not as strong as the original Emily had felt, at least it was something.

She knew that she was always being watched. At first, the boys had tried to pretend that she was still their sister, but the trick wore off as the colonel realized she wasn't aging. Some people also noticed the tattoo on the back of her neck, though most people didn't know what it meant.

People addressed her as Emily Elric, legally she was Emily Elric.

But she wasn't.

She wasn't a person to the brothers.

She was a symbol.

She was their regret.

So that was her name.
