Can't Escape the Past

Alexa's POV

"Run Alexa", I can hear my mother scream as the land starts to slide from our feet. " I can't go without you and Grandma", I yell back barely able to hear myself over the sounds of spells exploding, the ground moving and the water that is now rushing in on us. "Alexa please, we can only hold them off for a few more minutes. You are all we have left I need you to run! If you don't run now we will have no blood line left!" I look at my mother and grandmother one last time and then take off running for the caverns. I hear the explosion behind me but don't dare turn around. I know I have lost them I can feel it. The emptiness, the pain and the anger settle like a stone in my stomach.

For the third time this week I make up sweating still faintly hearing my mother's voice in the wind. It has been two years yet the night mares never go away. I believe it is a reminder. A reminder that I am alone and emotionally broken. A reminder that I can not trust anyone but my fellow witches. A reminder of who is to blame and why I must practice daily to become the most powerful witch that I can be. I walk out of the cavern and down to the river to calm my mind.

"Still not sleeping well?" I jump at the sound of Vanessa's voice. "Good lord Vanessa what I have told you about doing that to me!" Her melodic laughter fills the quiet around us. "I'm sorry now that I have mastered teleporting it is just so much easier. It took you a good ten minutes to walk down here. It took me a matter of seconds!" I have to smile at her logic. "Sometimes the walk is worth the time. It helps to clear my head." I can see the sadness in her purple eyes as she looks back at me. Vanessa lost all but her brother in the attacks and has struggled with raising him and training herself. " I still dream about that night as well, " she sighs as she sites down next to me. We sit watching the calming waves in the stream until a large shadow comes over us. Before either of us can react something crashes into the water in front of us.

"Dominic!" Vanessa yells her eyes glowing with annoyance. We can hear her brothers laughter from the tree as we both stand drenched in water form the large boulder that he sent flying in to the water. I push the hair from my face and raise my pointer finger towards him. I lift him from the ground and then start to swirl him in circles slowly. "No fair Alexa," he whines. I smirk as I stop spinning him and move him out above the chilly water. "You woul...." his sentence is cut short as he hits the water. Vanessa and I are doubled over in laughter as he comes sputtering to the top of the water. The last thoughts of my night mare temporarily forgotten. here…
