Prologue

My eyes shot open, my heart pounded against my chest, my body floating in sweat. I looked around, whew it was just a nightmare. I sighed and layed back down, my 4 year old body barely reaching the end of the bed. I started resting my eyes to sleep again. Then I heard a sound. It sounded like it was coming from downstairs. Was it mom and dad? I looked at the clock, 2:17.

I got out of bed and headed for the door. Opening it slowly I tiptoed past my 1 year old brother, Ryan, and straight to my parents room. I opened the door to find no one there, so I crept through the halls to the stairs. Downstairs I could hear muffled voices in the kitchen. I could make out four voices. That's odd we don't have 4 people here. I made my way down stairs soundlessly.

I peeked behind the wall I was hiding behind. There I found my parents on the floor hands up as if found by police. Right infront of them were two men dressed in black. One held a gun in hand while the other a knife. "Please let my children go, instead just take our lives, please I beg you", I heard my Mom say. "Oh so you have children? So where might we find them?" The one on the right asked. I felt a tear roll down my cheek.

"No don't please, no!" My dad said. The man on the left said "shhhhh shhhhh don't worry big man, we'll kill you first." With that the man slit his throat. I looked away, my dad loved me and I loved him. "Any words Grace?" The man on the right said. How did he know my moms name? Why did he know my moms name? What brought us even to this position? I looked at my dad chocking on his own blood. I looked back at my mom and for a split second I thought she looked at me, but right after she got a stab straight in the heart.

They started talking to each other while I started walking away as quietly as possible the wood just had to creak. They looked my way and then started running at me. I took off, but they were faster then me. I struggled against their grip. "Feisty I likee. Can we take this one?" One of them said. "Yeah...wait didn't she say children?" The other said. "She must be forgetful or something." Then they dragged me with such ease outside. They stuffed me in the back of they're truck, one took out a match lit it and threw it at the house. It caught on flames and started burning. Ryan. Then they closed the truck doors. There was no windows. The door was locked I felt so stuck.

After a while we stopped. One of them opened the truck. "Welcome to your new home!" He said. I looked up at the decaying asylum.
