Chapter one: Luna
I was suddenly filled with adrenaline. I had never felt so much energy in my life! The fire was so bright at night. I heard screaming and realized it was my own voice. I ran out the village. I almost tripped over my own feet trying to get away from the fire.
The villagers called out “Traiters!” I didn’t understand. We had done nothing wrong. I thought of why. Why had they set fire to my home? Why had they set fire to Xavier’s home? Why had they done the same to Alex?
The three of kept fleeing. We ran for what felt like hours, but was only minutes. We ran into the woods and didn’t turn back. We just...ran.
I could hear howling behind us. I glanced behind us and the villagers had the wolves. The village kept wolves to hunt and protect themselves from threats. Now they are being used to hunt and kill ME! This was the last thing I needed.
We eventually stopped running at the top of the hill. I had never been so tired in my life. “I think we lost them,”Alex said. A chuckle managed to escape my mouth as I was panting. That hill had never seemed so tall!
Midnight got closer and I could hear a howl in the distance. “Did you hear that?” I asked to know one in poticular. All I got was silence in return. I glanced at Xavier who was on high alert. Then I switched to Alex who was looking at me. I was about to say something, but was cut off by another howl. This time it was closer. “Where should we go if they manage to find us?” Alex whispered rather bluntly. I put my index finger up to my mouth. She clenched her jaw and looked away. Irritation in her eyes. I rolled my eyes and looked onto the forest canopy. There were no trees at the top of the hill.
After what felt like hours,we finally settled down and tried to get some sleep. I lay on my back and thought about what Alex had said. What would do if the wolves happened to find us? Would we run? No,they’d be too fast. Would we fight back? They’re too strong. They’d just tear us to shreds either way. Shut up,I thought to myself. I put my hands on either side of my head. We would leave.
Maybe we could get away before they catch our sent. Then the thought occurred to me. The wolves should have found us by now. I got up in a panick. Xavier and Alex appeared to have fallen asleep. My mind was swimming in confusion. The wolves should have found us by now I thought to myself again. Wolves have a great sense of smell. They should have fallowed our scent trail by now.
I walked further down the hill. Then I heard a growl. I looked to my right where the sound has come from. I saw someone in a red cloak with a leash attached to a Grey Wolf’s collar. I pretended like I didn’t see them. I was hoping that they wouldn’t do anything if I acted like I hadn’t seen them. I should have known better. My face paled as the person quickly walked towards me. I ran. I got to Xavier and Alex as uickly as I could and shook them awake.
