Chapter 1

The harsh and powerful alarms were burning through my ears. Making me feel as if I was going deaf. Guards were rushing past my cell with armor covering their bodies and tasers in hand. Prisoners were out and fighting, orange uniforms were stained with blood, both prisoners and guards were lying on the floor, unconscious or possibly dead. People were yelling, and while everyone’s cell was open, mine remained closed. I knew how this would end. And I knew if I was going to escape, I had to play it smart and not be reckless, impulsive, or impatient. Once all the guards were distracted by all the raging prisoners, my cell rang open. I grabbed my bag from under the mattress, leaving my cell and looking around. The guards were too distracted to see me exit the cell as I calmly strolled over to the locked key card door. Slipping my hand in my pocket, grabbing a key card, and sliding it through, unlocking the door. I looked up to the camera above and smirked as I walked to the other side, closing the door behind me, causing it to immediately lock. I followed the long hallway that was leading me to the main office.

“Mr. Hunt! Get back to your cell now,” I heard detective Kate say sternly from behind me.

“Hello Kate, I have missed seeing you around. Why don’t you come to visit me anymore?” I pouted with a conniving smirk.

“You know very well why NO ONE comes to visit you.” A dry laugh escaped my lips as I analyzed detective Kate.

“Miss Kate, You know that wasn’t a one-way thing. I can’t help how people act around me.” I state, taking a step closer to her. I noticed her body tense up, and her arm slowly moves away from her hip, where her gun rests.

“Mr. Hunt, I need you to step back against the wall,” another laugh escaped me as she was starting to become uneasy as I became closer to her. I leaned in, and my lip grazed her ear, causing her body to shiver.

“Miss. Kate, I’m sincerely sorry for this,” I whisper, and the realization hits her mind, but It was too late. I grabbed the gun that was at her hip, twisted her arm up and over her head, causing a yelp of pain to come out of her. Placing both arms behind her back, dislocating her arms just a little, and grabbing the spare gun from her boot.

“I’m sure you know, what’s going to happen next,” I tell her with a smirk. We walked to the end of the hall with only a set of bars separating me from the main office. I pressed Kate against the bars, squishing her face against the cold metal, as I held up the gun I stole from her to her temple.

“If you want Detective Kate to live, you will open this gate and not take a step towards me,” I state loud and clear, alerting the people at the desk. Worry and panic emerging all over their faces.

“I...I’m s..uuur..re we can fig...uu..re something o..ut,” one of the people say, stuttering all over the place, gaining my smirk to grow wider.

“I told you what to do if you want Miss Kate to live, and I suggest you do it quickly,” I no longer hear the loud noises coming from the inmates giving me confirmation that this break out is about to escalate and get a whole lot more fun. The stuttering guy hesitantly walks over to the bars and unlocks them. I quickly move to the other side, shoot the guy who was still standing at the desk, and leave the station. I knew they were going to follow me, and I knew that Kate was going to be part of the pursuit.

Quickly finding a car, I jumped into a police truck then hot-wired it. Pulling out of the police station, turning on the siren, and driving off. I needed to get a head start. I followed route I89 swerving through the cars and buildings. More sirens began to be heard, and a devilish smile played appeared on my face. More police cars showed up behind me, and Hellacopters arrived high in the air. Accelerating the gas and speeding off faster. The buildings and streets began to blur as I raced down them, swerving frantically to avoid my pursuers. It has been a long time since I have had a thrill such as this. I have missed the adrenaline running through me. Police cars started to show up ahead, lying down the police spikes on the road. It’s always the same routine, and a true criminal knows how to get out of it. Taking a vicious turn down an alley, bumping a car to get in the way of the cops that are following close behind me. There was a forest 3o miles ahead, and if I could get there before the cops got to me, then I would be set free. Speeding up faster, making the truck go as fast as it could without blowing the ignition. I could see the tree line ahead, and as I slowed down, placing a rock on the gas and jumping out of the car. Watching as the truck speed off, I felt a stinging pain in my wrist. Figuring I twisted my wrist, I ignored the pain and made a run for the tree line. After the truck crashed, the helicopter spotlight landed straight on me. The cars were soon right behind me, the spotlight disappeared as I entered the woods. Running at full speed through the woods, swerving through the trees, and circling a few logs to confuse the dogs. It has been a long time since I’ve run like this, my legs began to sting, and it was becoming difficult to breathe. I heard dogs barking and people yelling close behind me. I knew there was a dirt road I would soon come across. I was wandering and sprinting through the trees, desperately trying to find my car on the abandoned dirt road before I was captured.

Soon the silver BMW came into view, letting relief wash over me. I reached into the outer pocket of my bag, pulling out my keys. I quickly unlocked the car and started the engine, driving out onto the highway at a slow and cautious speed. When I made it to the highway, I speed up a little going only 75MPH. Causing no suspicion that I was the one driving the car. Still, a little worried I wasn’t in the clear yet, I continued going the speed limit as I listened carefully for sirens and listened to the radio. Hours of driving this way, there was still no sign they knew where I was. I pulled into a trucker’s rest stop, and looked for an old beat-up car that looked, as if the person, would trade me their car. Luckily enough, there was a guy with a beat-up ford. I convinced him I traded old cars for new ones because I liked to refurbish beat-up cars. He stupidly believed me, and I got back on the road. Disappearing into the night and going somewhere the cops would never find me, The town of Vernon.
