Chapter 1 - The beginning.

It took a long time to realize the feeling in his gut was homesickness. He never thought he would miss that place. But here he was, as far away as he could possibly get, feeling uneasy. He was the quiet type and know ever spoke to him. By early June he had just moved to the new house. It was his grandparents old house.

It took him a bit of time before he could get used to everything. The next day the breeze rippled the leaves and said “shush”, but he didn’t need to be told to be quiet. For as he knew words were the last thing he needed, and everything had been said, anyway.

He had so many thoughts in his head then he remembered something his grandfather told him. “The wisdom of old age is a curse and a blessing. Some many things I would do again, for pleasure or for redemption. If I could turn a dial and go back, the first thing I would do...” he continued thinking.

Suddenly, he felt relieved as if those words were soothing in a way. He wanted so bad to ask his mother why they moved. But he knew he would regret the question the moment the words were out of his mouth. She had been working hard in lab for decades, so long they probably already named the place after her.

He was glad for her yeah, but he felt uneasy. Finally he knew what he was going to say. Everything about it felt right. All of his instincts, usually so skeptical, were prodding him forward. Then, it happened. He took a deep breath stood up and began talking.

But before he could get any words out of his mouth she placed her hands over his mouth. She never thought she would see it happen again. Would this house get destroyed like the ones they lived in before. She told him he must never talk she feared for him. If the government found out about him. She couldn’t imagine the possibilities.

He never knew the main reason for why they were always moving. His mom just didn’t have the gut to tell him. He started high school the next day. He seemed nervous but it wasn’t the same as how his mother was feeling. She wanted so bad to home school him but she knew it wouldn’t be easy.

He was very intelligent and got all good grades. He just was never the person to speak. On his first day, it was mess at lunch he bumped into people and even spilled his coffee. Now it may have seemed weird that he had coffee for lunch but he barely slept and he need so much to stay awake. This is why he never wanted nice things.

Covered in hot, foamy coffee and the centre of attention, he tried to make a discreet exit, but Heaven forbid he get out of this with his dignity intact. Then someone came along a girl in the same grade. She brought him over to the office and showed him to the lost and found so he could pick out something new.

He shook her hand and wrote on a piece of paper it was his way of thanking people. She smiled and told him it was not a problem. Before he left she gave him her number and told him. “If you ever need anything just come to me. We’re friends now.”
