Chapter 1

Everyone goes through pain, it may vary, but there is a singular moment in time when the unimaginable happens. Pain in not getting your dream job, or the college you want, losing your best friend you had since high school. This is everyday pain, normal hardships. Then there is the pain that scars you, the kind where you are never the same after it happens. Where it leaves a mark on your heart, and you look at the world differently.

No one’s pain is the same. It consumes us differently. For many of us, we feel as though we will never be able to end this cycle of pain, of feeling empty. I felt like many of those people. This is not a story about how someone saved me, but how I clawed, fought, and dug my way out of this cycle of pain. My emptiness consumed me, it made me feel like I was nothing but a void, nothing. It did not matter how many therapists I saw, how many people told me they cared about me, I needed to help myself. Yet, for the longest time, I did not want to.

That was until I met Skye Wilson and Dimitri Collins. They weren’t the light in my dark world. No, they were something much different. Both of them were lost in their darkness, searching aimlessly for a way out, but refusing any hands that may have reached out to them. Together we had met in the ugliness of our minds, and together we found the strength to finally take the hands that had been reaching out to help us. Ourselves.
