From the Heart is a collection of poems written by a young, Southern poet named Melodi J. Melodi J. hails from Atlanta, Georgia & was born on September 15, 1992. At the age of 1, she lost her mother due to heart complications, along with her grandmother, who passed away from complications of the HIV virus. During the years of her adolescence, she began to discover a love & passion for writing & music. As an adult, Melodi J. experienced many trials & tribulations that caused her writing skills to not only become a stress reliever but also, genuinely expressive. It is Melodi J's hopes that her work will reach many young women & men in the world, as well as, her family & peers. Melodi J. currently resides in her hometown of Atlanta, with her husband and is also working on a second installment of poems and expanding their family.

I got 3 angels on my side

3 angels that stay flying high

Barbara, Pauline & Allene

The angels who’ve been right beside me

Watching over me

Protecting me

God, I hope y’all proud of me

Watching every decision, I make

Seeing every choice, I made

See, Mama

I got dreams, ok?

& I’m sorry that it’s taken me so long to reach my destination

Life can throw you curveballs

Swear I never thought I’d be where I’m at right now

But that’s no pressure

& I remember how Juana said you went out

& got a second job

Just so she would be able to go on her field trip to Washington, D.C.

I wanna put a headstone on your grave

& I have a vision of all your babies

Standing round you

Thanking you

For bringing us into this world

Still wanting you to be proud of your babygirl

& auntie

I still have visions of your smile & your warmth & company

I know you out of all people

Would’ve never wanted any harm done to me

Can’t say the same for grandma

Cause she was an OG

But just like the twins

God blessed y’all to be

Different in your own right

But I know y’all stuck by

Each other’s side

Down to ride

& I feel the exact same way about my 3 siblings

Discovering music hasn’t been the same since

I’ve went through my nervous trials

Still sweat the pressure out

Every once in a while

But I pray with every poem

That I write

I keep on building on

These emotions that I feel inside

Don’t wanna follow the crowd

Don’t wanna settle down

& be something that

I’m not meant to be

I know God ain’t bless me with my talents for nothing

& out of everything I been thru

In these 23 years of living

I know there’s nothing more

Than I’d rather do

Than get out here & start grinding

Imma make you proud of your babygirl, forreal

I know I’ve had my selfish ways

& I keep praying to God

To help me change my ways

Cause I wanna be better to me

& better for my future

& anything
