Chapter 1

When I look in the mirror I see a young black woman. Her dark brown hair is pulled back into a bun. She has thick eyebrows that she should probably go get done. She is wearing magenta glasses and under those glasses, she is wearing black eyeliner and mascara. She has a button nose and slight acne scars coating her face. She’s rocking her favorite hoops and red matte lipstick.

I see a girl who didn’t get nearly enough sleep last night. I see a girl who really misses her bed. I also see a girl who is starving as she is typing this entire thing. This young black woman would really like to go eat.

I see a young black woman who takes on more than she can handle. A young black woman who shoulders all her problems because she doesn’t want to be a burden to others. I see a young black woman who’s had more than just a taste of depression. A girl who nearly drowned herself in her own pools of negativity and was still much too stubborn to grab on to a helping hand.

I see a girl who’s immensely tired of struggling. I see a girl who is bored with being content. A girl who craves happiness that can last longer than five minutes. I see a girl who wants more than what she’s got. A girl who wants to be able to say that she’ll do whatever is in her power to get those things. A girl that knows she can only get so far when she’s destructive in every sense and cares very little for her own well-being.

When I look in the mirror I see a young black woman who hasn’t got nearly enough sleep and this young black woman is still very hungry.

Cora: Decent story. Slightly predictable turn of events but I didn't think at this point it was a possible twist! I enjoy the stream of thought writing style this has, though some proofreading and punctuation could help a few spots. Recommend this for ebooks and forgive a few confusing errors. Enjoyable t...
