Chapter 1: The beggining

Beginning of September. Passing by a library, I notice a book covered in a gold cover that instantly catches my eye. Out of curiosity, I go in to find out more details about the mysterious book. Carefully, I take her in my trembling hands because of the emotions. The bright gold looks like the gentle rays of the sun in a May morning. A familiar voice is heard in the background as I try to open the book:

"Thomas Pierre Rosier, wake up that you will be late on the very first day of school!" said my mom in a French accent.

I open my eyes still asleep and start getting dressed for high school. I put on some black jeans and a black hoodie with the name of my favorite band on it: Scorpions. I leave the room without combing my black hair and ruffled curls:

"Why are you still dressed in black? You're not going to the funeral as far as I know?! You are going to school!" says my mom angry, then realizing the mistake she made.

"Thomas, I'm so sorry sweetie, I didn't mean to sound like that. I know maybe I made you think of your father, says my mother with tears in her eyes."

" Mom, it's okay, we have to get over it, dad wouldn't want to see us upset. He will always have a special place in our hearts!"I tell her and hug my mother.

Before leaving, I look at my reflection in the living room mirror. A tall, curly boy with black hair and black eyes like the abyss seems to look at me melancholy. A beautiful necklace with a tiny sun from his father is at his neck. His freckles like glitter seem to be sprinkled on his small, sharp nose. He does not appear to be from France, he has no specific characteristics of the people in that country. He doesn't look like his mother who was born in Bordeaux. His mother, Adelynn, is small, blonde and has eyes like the ocean. His mother always told him that he look like his American father who died of cancer a year ago when Thomas was 15 years old:

"Thommy, Thommy, pass the ball!" his father used to tell him when they played basketball together. Thommy, that was his nickname, that's how his father caressed him, how he missed him every single day. From the corners of his eyes, tears appear, sliding down on his red cheeks like two roses. I put my headphones on and leave the house. Mac DeMarco's song "My kind of woman" makes me think about what kind of girl I am. The only one I liked, Debby, is now the girlfriend of a popular boy who, together with his friends, Stephen and Dariaus, make life for me and my two friends, Bob and Andres, hell. The first class, the history class, begins and Mr. Zipinson gives us the first project of this year: "The Greco-Persian Battles". He recommends us a library, which I haven't been to, it's one kilometer from high school. Now in the high school's hallways, it's announced that the class is over and we can go to the high school's canteen. I sit down at the regular table and wait for my friends to come. I see a tall boy wearing a red jacket specific to high school sports, football. After a moment's reflection, I realize that Jeffrey was behind me. Next to him was a girl with red, wavy hair and eyes like emeralds. The tight clothes she is wearing seem to make her tenderness and innocence disappear: "Thommy Rosier," Jeffrey says and laugh loudly

"My name is Thomas, not Thommy!" "No need to get angry, you will have wrinkle otherwise, Thommy!" Jeffrey laughs. I see Jeffrey and Debby quickly move away from the table I'm at. Debby waves to me and smiles. My heart seems to come out of my chest the moment I smile back. My cheeks are red as two tomatoes and I think she noticed this:

" Did Jeffrey visit you with the redhead?" a familiar voice asks and sits down at my table.

" Her name is Debby, Bob!" I say harshly.

"I forgot you still like her," the boy muttered. I look up and see Bob gloomily. The blond boy with the chubby cheeks looks at me with his almond-shaped brown eyes. With a nod, he removes the blond bang from his eyes.

"Where's Andres?" I ask him to break the embarrassing silence.

"Who knows where he is, you know what he's like..." , says Bob indifferently.

The classes are over and I decide to go to the library recommended by Mr. Zipinson to find out about the history project. The sun slowly sets on the vault of the sky where it seems that the night is having a war with the day. The enchanting landscape seems to be painted in a million spectacular colors. I cross the pedestrian crossing and arrive in front of the library. Looking out the window of the library, I think of the dream I had, everything seemed real in an unreally beautiful way. Each thing was detailed in a unique way, difficult to express in words. I'm going into the library. The doorbell rings deafeningly in the small library. A tall, thin lady appears from a room next to the shelf of science fiction books:

"Can I help you with something, boy?" the woman said and in the moment she saw me her she seemed to be shocked.

"Aaa, yeah. Do you have any books on the Greco-Persian battles? "I ask, almost in a whisper. -

" Yes, yes, there are a few. I'll bring them to you in a moment!" she says and leaves.

" Thank you very much!" I tell her. A shiny object seems to catch my eye. I look back and notice a book with a golden cover similar to the one in the dream. I take it in trembling hands and I realize that it is a déjà vu, everything is like in the dream I had recently. I open it and write on the first page ...

A sharp voice wakes me from my daydream, I look up and see the librarian staring at me with her green eyes that seem to harden at a glance and says sharply:

"Thomas, leave the book and get out of my library now!" the angry lady yelled at me.
