Chapter 1

Lev

Grocery shopping is a necessary evil. I hate doing it but I like eating. So here I am. At Walmart. Trying to convince my roommate, Theo, that two dollars a pound does not necessarily mean that it's going to be two dollars at checkout. A man can only take so much.

"But it says two dollars."

"Per pound Theo!" I try not to shout. I hear a soft female laugh but I can't find where it's coming from.

"They need to advertise this per pound bullshit better." He whines. Dear God, this guy is like a brother to me but sometimes I want to kill him just to make my life a little easier.

"It's a conspiracy," I say just to shut him up for a bit. Theo and I played football together in college and we're roommates and we work together. It's a lot of together time.

He leans into me grinning. I know that look. Hottie alert.

"Seven o'clock dude." I turn and see an absolute fox. She has long brown hair and is dressed in a yellow sundress showing off delicious curves and long legs. God damn. She grabs a bag of apples and puts them in her cart. I almost follow her as she walks away. I didn't even get to see her face.

I shake off my stalker-like behavior and finish our shopping. I catch a few more glimpses of that sunshine-yellow dress before we're ready to leave. Theo ditches me at the checkout line to go look at something. I'm waiting when I hear an odd conversation coming from the line next to mine. I can't see whose voice it is just that it's female. It's a bad habit, eavesdropping, but it's a useful one in my line of work.

"Well I don't know... did you ask him, Bear?... No, I can't. I'm shopping right now. You're going to have to grow some balls and do it yourself... Fine. Good luck getting out of there alive." I hear a harsh laugh. "Just use the blowtorch and get it over with... I can't do this right now. Deal with it... Talk to you when I get home." What in the hell? Consider my interest peaked! She sounded very professional and no-nonsense. It bothers me that I can't figure it out though. I can usually figure everyone out.

It's my turn to check out and I see the woman in yellow paying at the till next to me with her phone in her hand. Surely that wasn't this angel on the phone. She finishes paying and goes to drive her cart away when Theo plows into her. He catches her before she falls like some prince charming.

"I'm so sorry. Are you ok, beautiful?" It's his patented line. I slump in defeat. She's going to cave to him and I won't stand a chance. Not that I would anyway. I'm a big guy with tattoos and a scar dragging down the side of my face. That angel wouldn't look twice at me with anything but fear in her eyes. That or disgust.

"I'm fine. Thanks. Be careful next time. I could have killed you!" She laughs. It's a sweet laugh and her voice is soft and reminds me of music. No way could she have been the woman on the phone.

"I'm tougher than I look," Theo says leaning on her cart. I watch as she laughs and pats his cheek like he's adorable. Lucky bastard. He stands up straight at the attention.

"Sure you are, sweetie." And she leaves without looking back once. I almost laugh at him. He got played by my angel. I wish I could have talked to her. Maybe it's for the best that I didn't. I don't think I would handle her rejection well at all. We hurry out as Theo pouts sending me into a great mood.

We get to our red truck and I see my angel is parked beside us. She's packing her groceries into her black truck swearing under her breath. Theo hops into our truck without helping me. A bruised ego is a hard thing to deal with when you're used to having whatever girl you want.

I watch my angel hike up her dress and hop onto the bed of her truck and grab a black duffel bag. I pack my groceries into the back as I watch her out of the corner of my eye. She slides down giving me a thrilling view of her creamy thighs. She has little white thigh-high stockings on and my cock gets hard at the sight of them. And Jesus take the wheel when she pulls a car jack out of the bag. She's changing a flat tire. She sets up the jack without hesitation and I get a great view of her ass as she pumps up the side of her truck. Once up she grabs a ratchet and crawls under to get the spare tire. Hot damn. This is a woman after my own heart. I can't stay silent anymore when I hear her curse loudly.

"Hey, is everything okay?" I ask as she slides out from under the truck and smiles at me. My world lights up.

"Hi, ya just a never-ending to-do list. I can't get the spare off." She shrugs.

"Would you mind if I try?" I ask. She takes a good look at me with her warm brown eyes. I know what she sees. A monster of a man. She sees my scars but there is not an ounce of fear or disgust in her eyes. She stands up to her full height hitting the middle of my chest, she's so tiny and hands me the ratchet.

"If you get it free. I'll have to buy you dinner." She says with a wink. I have never been so inspired to get under a car as I am at this moment.
