Chapter 1

“You know you don’t have to do this!” I looked at my mother, her words filled with fear and concern as she gazed at me through her glassy eyes.

I wish I could change this, stay home and live a normal life like all the village girls but I chose to differ. How long are we going to stay like this? Someone should change this and I’m willing to start this Revolution.

I sighed and cupped my mother’s face “Mother, it’s the only way to save all of us. I promise I’ll be back safe and sound. Now you have to promise me that you’ll take care of yourself. ” I say sternly, I only wanted her to be safe and healthy. She lived her life trying to protect me now it’s my time to return it even though I won’t be with her physically!

I wiped her tears, her forest green eyes reflecting sorrow, pain and worry for her only daughter who is leaving for her village trying to save it with her life.

“Eva! Your my brave girl! I’m sorry I couldn’t help you out of this.”

I pulled away and looked up at the grey cloudy sky telling the arrival of rain. Why did it have to be so gloomy just like the village. The village were seeing sun is a rare sight to behold. Our skin as white as snow due to lack of heat and sunlight.

I will change this!

“You tried your best to convince the elders from sending me, it’s not your fault that the majority won” I reasoned

The cackling of horse shoes caught our attention. I felt her body become stiff “Oh God!” She cried holding my hand as if I’m her only source of life. I glanced at the tattered carriage, the red paint on the wood chipped, the wood looked dark almost rotting. I could tell this was rarely used as none of us left the village. We had everything here itself and the Demon’s minions brought supplies for us as they took some of us to be their slaves.

Anger coursed through my veins at the very mention of slaves. This new king had a whole nerve to take us as slaves. Just because he’s ruling our land it doesn’t give him the right to treat us as mere slaves. Even we have life, a family to look after.

No one knows how the king looked like, he was rumoured to be a night creature hence no one could see him during daybreak.

I pulled my sling bag, which contains two pairs of clothes, a jacket, pair of boots, a dagger and my diary.

I gave my mother one last hug before walking towards the carriage. The footman opened the door, giving me a slight nod as I climbed in.

I settled on the seat before glancing outside, seeing my mother wipe her tears as she hugged my little brother. My eyes dampened thinking I’ll be leaving them for God knows how long. I waved my hand, while giving them a half smile. I turned away quickly as the tears fell from my eyes.

Be strong! At least for your family!

I closed my eyes taking a deep breath before staring outside the window and the carriage moved with a creaking sound. clutching my bag bringing it closer to my chest i leaned against the window and closed my eyes hoping to get some sleep. It’ll take nearly two hours to reach the castle.

Hope I come back victorious!
