Imposter
I crack. I break. I lack and I take. I’m twisting and turning, insisting and burning for them And they hear. No matter what I say, they adhere to the fears they’ve held so dear.
And so I’ll die knowing that I’ve never had a heart to call my own. The lies I show spit fire into the eyes of those who listen.
I’m just a forest. Wait, not a forest but a single tree. A redwood tree in the desert.
But I’m taller, bigger, stronger, so the salamanders listen.
If only they were smarter.
