“Amy!” Emmett ran after Amy, shoving Celeste angrily out of the way. “Amy!” He pushed open the door and ran out into the desert. She was nowhere in sight. Fear overcame Emmett, and he sank to his knees. What if she died out here, in the desert? Became lost, lost too much blood from her wounds, or even killed herself? He forced himself to think rationally, realizing that it was his anger and sadness talking. She was rational and smart enough to find a way home.

“Well, she’s gone,” Celeste said cheerfully from the doorway. Emmett turned on her, raging.

“Why did you do that for?! Why?!” He pushed her angrily, and she calmly stepped away.

“I told you that I hate her above anything else. You should go chase after her.” She closed the door on him, clicking the locks. Emmett turned back towards the desert, Kevin at his heels, growling.

“Let’s go,” Emmett said. Kevin was now strong enough to travel, and they took off, Emmett as a swallow.
