Chapter One

It’s that day again, the day that Zab hates herself for being too patient and understanding. Her parents visited her at her house, and she was excited when her dad told her they were coming over. But her happiness and excitement disappeared when her parents arrived, they just talk about her brother Caleb. Zab is the second child of her family, she has two brothers Caleb her older brother, and Allen her younger brother. Zab and her older brother have their own house. It was a gift from their parent after they graduated from university.

Zab is the only girl, which always makes her hope her mother will always give her more time, but it’s the opposite. Zab and her mother were not in the perfect mother-daughter relationship. Zab always pretends to be the “good one” when her parents are around. Her parents are very strict. Her father is the CEO of their company and her mother is a President at a prestigious school in their country. She has just finished university and will soon be trying to find employment.

Zab tries to find her purpose in life. She doesn’t want to get involved in her father’s business or be like her mother. Gladly her father didn’t force her to be the successor of their business.

“Ziah, we’ll get going now, we’ll drop by again soon” Zab’s father, Mr. Sim said to her. Zab’s father always calls her by her first name. “Okay dad, have a safe drive home, thank you for visiting” Zab replied. “Bye mom,” she said but her mother didn’t reply.

After watching her parents for a while, she went inside her house. “Hmmm, what’s the problem this time, why does she always treat me like this every time I’m around!” Zab said to herself. She went to her balcony and calm herself, she felt unwanted again. Zab never had a good memory with her mother. Her mother always gives her a blank face, which makes Zab keep quiet every time she’s with her mother.

After calming herself she went to her room to get her laptop and phone and went back to the balcony. She contacted her best friend Eli to talk about their application for a job. Although Zab’s family is wealthy, she wants to be successful by standing on her own as her brother did. Her brother also turned down the opportunity to be a successor of their father’s business. “You know what I’m not feeling good today,” she said. “Why? Did your parents came over today?” Eli asked her. “Yeah” Zab replied. “Why don’t you try talking to your mom, just try being open to her” Eli suggested. “I’ll try, I need to hang up now, I have to walk Summer out, she’s begging me all day to walk her out to the beach. I’ll call you back soon” Zab replied and ended the call.

Zab’s house is just near the park and beach. She really liked the location of her house when she first saw it. And she asked her father to buy it immediately before anyone else does. It’s their favorite place with her pet dog. She likes to walk by the beach because she loves the sound of the waves, it comforts her just by listening to it. “Summer, let’s go home, it’s getting dark,” she said to her dog.

When they got home, Zab’s phone is ringing she immediately picked up her phone and looked at who’s calling. It turns out it’s her older brother Caleb. She answered it “Hello,” she said. “Hey Zab, it’s me Caleb” her brother replied. “I know, why did you call?” she said. “Can I ask you a favor? Can I leave Cassie with you? Her nanny took a leave for a week since her father got sick and Keira and I will fly to London to meet our client” said her brother. “Sure no problem, just bring with her all the things she needs, I’ll take care of her” she replied. “Thank you so much Zabby, as always I can count on you. I’ll just call you again tomorrow after we leave the house” her brother said. “Okay, bye”. After the call was ended, she went for a shower and change in her pajamas, and flopped down in her bed. It’s been a tiring day for her so she went to sleep early.
