Broken

Spark watched as the fire tore her house down, with her parents still inside. They were looking for her. But she had already jumped out the window and escaped with a pillowcase full of clothes. No one was around. Even the firefighters weren't there. Spark watched with tears in her eyes as the house finally fell down, crushing her parents. She turned around and ran. She didn't look back.

The next morning, Spark woke to the sound of cars honking. She saw at least fifty cars lined up in traffic. A strange man got out of one of the cars and started shouting at her. She couldn't hear what he was saying, so she picked up her pillowcase bag and ran faster then she had ever run before. She had no idea where she was going.

It rained that night. Hard. So Spark grabbed an umbrella from her bag, found a blanket, and laid down in the alleyway.

She was cold and hungry. She was lost, afraid, broken.
