Chapter 01
“Cara! Cara! Cara!″
The crowd roars my name as I quickly come up for air. I don’t stop.
″Cara! Cara! Cara!″
I just continue, swiftly moving through the chlorine filled water.
″Cara Beaumont is in the lead. Pulling up close behind her is Josyln Carter with at least 15 feet distance between them.″
″Cara! Cara! Cara!″
I dive down and the noise instantly stops. As I glide through the water, I can see the distance between me and the finish line decrease with every stroke I take.
I roll my shoulder and prepare to push back my arm, and then it hits me. The pain. It makes my body tense. I try to roll my shoulders, move them back, anything but it’s like they are frozen. I crash through the surface, gasping for air.
I twist my head around, getting my bearings back as the noise of the swimming center closes in around me.
″-is down! It seems like there has been an accident with our front runner. She seems disoriented but she’s back up.″
I try to ignore the pain overtaking my shoulder as I force myself to continue swimming. I push myself forwards as far as I can before the pain pushes back at me.
″Cara! Cara! Cara!″
I propel myself to the finish line, pushing with my feet to make up for my now immobile arm. I rush ahead, biting my tongue, as the pain moves down my arm.
″Despite the setback she’s back in the race as she quickly overtakes the three swimmers in front of her, however, it seems she just can’t catch up fast enough to still make first place.″
Just as my fingers reach the finish line I hear a loud bell ringing. I feel myself sinking down, my mouth and my throat filling up with water as I struggle to keep myself above water. Two hands quickly pull me up out of the water, causing me to stumble forward.
A dizzy spell hits me as someone throws me a soft towel. I attempt to cough up the water from my throat while clutching the towel and I double forward.
The pain that I was able to fight in the water, crept back forcing me to clutch my shoulder in pain.
″Cara!″ I hear someone calling my name and I look up to see a blurry figure running towards me. I stumble to the side as another dizzy spell hits. I fall forwards, the ground coming closer and close until all I see is black.
