Summary

"Well, what are you waiting for?" he asks glaring at me. What an ass, I thought. He didn't have to be so rude. I rush to catch up to him. "How do you know where my class is?" I question. "It's the same as mine." he replies with a harsh tone. "Why are you being so rude?", I practically yell at him. All of the sudden I'm pushed up against the lockers, Jaxon holding my hands by my head. "You should really shut your damn mouth." he growls, tightening his grip on my hands. I wince at the pressure on my wrists. Realizing he's hurting me, he lets go. Leaving our faces still inches apart. It feels like hours before he pulls away, telling me to follow him.

My eyes slowly flutter open and I turn my head and glance at my alarm clock. 9:30?! How long did I sleep? I swear I set my alarm. I take a quick shower and throw my hair up in a fast bun, leaving it messy. I slip on a white skirt and an oversized navy sweater over a white collared shirt. I sprint downstairs and grab a granola bar to eat for breakfast. As I pass the fridge, I see a note my mom left for me. 'Nessa, I'm going to be gone for two weeks. I'm sorry I couldn't be here for your first day at your new school. I trust that you'll be responsible and not burn the house down. Love, mom.'

I sling my backpack over my shoulders after putting on my favorite Dr. Marten boots on and walk out the door, locking it as I leave. I walk down the sidewalk to the bus stop. I ride the transit since my mom is never home. Once I get to school, I go to the front office to get my schedule for the new year. I'm greeted by a kind old lady. I start to make my way to my first class, when I slip and feel myself falling to the ground with a thud. My head burns and I can't think clearly. I close my eyes, trying to numb the pain.
I wake up with a burning headache. I try to sit up but I fail, falling back onto the pillow. What happened? As I'm trying to regain my memory, A nurse comes into the room. "Oh great, you're finally awake." she says. "How long have I been out?" I question, suddenly concerned I missed all my classes. "About 45 minutes." she replies. I sigh in relief knowing that I still have four classes left. As I start to get up, the nurse tells me that I have a slight concussion and I need to rest. I tell her I'm fine and eventually she lets me leave. I open my backpack, searching for my schedule. Shit, I lost it. It must've dropped when I slipped. I make my way to the office to get a new copy.

When I get there she hands me my schedule and advises that I don't lose it this time. I mentally roll my eyes. It's not my fault I slipped and passed out. I fake a smile and say thank you. As I look at my schedule, it dawns on me that I have no idea where I'm going. "Umm miss? Can you tell me where my class is?" I ask politely. "Oh, no trouble! Jaxon can show you around. right Jaxon?" she asks a tall, brown haired boy. "Fine." He walks out the door quickly.

We make it to my class, and as I'm about to open the door I ask, "I thought this was your class too?" He looks at me and chuckles, crossing his arms. "It is. I just don't like this class." He replies with a smirk spread across his lips. I turn around, about to open the door when he grabs my shoulder turning me back around. "I never caught your name." he says. A small smile appears on my lips as I say, "Nessa." I hold out my hand for him to shake, and he just turns and walks away with that stupid smirk on his face. Well two can play at that game, Jaxon.

My class goes painfully slow, considering I have a burning headache. The bell rings loudly, indicating it's time for lunch. I gather my stuff and make my way to the cafeteria. I don't eat much normally because I was bullied for my weight in middle school. I only weigh 124 lbs now, I used to weigh 150. As I enter the cafeteria I see my cousin Luke waving me over. Thank god I have somewhere to sit. As I'm walking over to his table I see Jaxon. I begin to turn around until I feel a hand grab my wrist. I turn and see Luke looking at me with puppy dog eyes, and sticking his lower lip out at me. "Fine." I say as I sit down at the end of the table near Luke and his little brother Jacob. "Nessa!" Jacob exclaims as soon as he sees me. "Hi Jake." I say ruffling his hair. He quickly smooths it over with his fingers saying, "Nessa, I'm trying to attract the ladies. I can't have you messing up my hair." I chuckle, knowing that he's going to have a lot of girls after him if he turns out anything like Luke. "So Nessa, I trust you made it to all your classes?" Jaxon asks, looking me up and down. I nod and turn away so he can't see my red face. I don't even like him, why am I blushing? He's an arrogant jerk, and he doesn't care about anyone but himself. I quickly regain my composure and turn back to him. "Yeah, thanks." I said, rolling my eyes. "feisty." Jaxon says, a smirk spreading across his lips. I look at him and inch closer to him, lening over the table. Once my face is inches away from his, I bite the air acting like I'm going to bite something. He quickly jumps back and I sit down laughing to myself. The others at the table tease Jaxon for being scared of a girl and he tries to say that it was just because he was shocked. I giggle at all the comments, as Jaxon stands up and walks away from the table. We all go silent for a few seconds and then burst into laughter.

Later that evening, I arrive home and the door is already open. That's weird. I grab the pepper spray from inside my backpack and slowly walk into the house. I hear a loud crash beside me and I instinctively spray the pepper spray before seeing who it is. There's a loud groan and the unknown boy is kneeling on the floor near the stairs. Jaxon. "Jesus Nessa!" He screams, covering his eyes. "Oh my god Jaxon!" I run over and crouch beside him. Trying not to laugh, I say "I'm sorry. Why are you here anyway?" I ask him. "Luke told me to pick you up. I assumed you were home so I went upstairs to get you." he replied. "Pick me up for what?" I question, looking at him with an eyebrow raised. "There's a party tonight and he wanted you to go." Jaxon says, taking his hands off his eyes. Looking at my outfit, he laughs. "You're wearing that?" I look at him and cross my arms. "First of all, what's wrong with my outfit? Second, I didn't even know I would be going to a party." I say, annoyed at his rude comment. "Well, are you gonna change?" he questions, looking back up at me. "Fine." I say, as I stomp up the stairs. I practically run to my room and shut the door. I walk over to my closet and fling the doors open. I have nothing to wear. Oh my god, Jaxon is probably waiting. I quickly find a short black skirt, maybe a little too short. Who cares, I say to myself, grabbing a long sleeve, dark green crop top. Once I finish getting dressed, I touch up my makeup and slip on a pair of black high heels with gold straps. I look at myself in the mirror. Before I can think any negative thoughts, I turn and walk out the door.

I slowly make my way down the stairs trying not to trip and fall to my death. When I reach the bottom, Jaxon looks up at me and his eyes go wide. "You can stop staring, Loverboy." I say, raising my eyebrows slightly. He makes his way over to me until he's uncomfortably close. "You shouldn't wear that skirt, Nessa." Jaxon says roughly, his face near my ear. "Oh yeah. Why not?" I question, smirking. "Because it makes me want to do things I'll regret." He growls in a hushed tone. Maybe I shouldn't have worn the skirt.
