In the Garden

Misty was at Princeton Middle. She was getting her backpack out of her locker at the end of the day. She struggled with this. You see, Misty had Phocomelia. Phocomelia is an extremely rare disorder that involves the malformation of a limb. So, instead of having a left arm, she had a stub where her left arm was supposed to be. Misty often gets bullied for this. As Misty was trying to put her backpack on, three kids named Flash, Brittney, and Blake came over. They watched her until she finally got the backpack on. Then, they came over, pulled it off, and threw it on the ground. They sneered and laughed and walked away. But, Misty is very optimistic and doesn’t care what other people think of her, she is never mean to bullies when they bully her. Or she’ll be just as bad as them.

One day, Flash, Brittney, and Blake laughed at her during gym when she tried to do a handstand. She fell and injured herself. Flash, Brittney, and Blake laughed again. Misty just lost it! After school, she ran home crying. She wished that she had two arms and that she was normal. She took a walk in her garden. That always seemed to calm her down. Then, she saw something glowing. She casually strolled toward it, trying not to cause suspicion, when suddenly,

“CRACK!”

She quickly turned around and saw her friend Lila and her dog Tiger there.

“What are you doing here!” Misty asked startled

“We were following you,” Lila answered. Tiger confirmed with a bark

“I know that but how did you get into my garden!”

“Oh, we were supposed to have book club together today. Remember? Your mom told me you were in the garden so I came here.”

“But then why were you following me so silently?”

“Because we didn’t want to startle you,” Lila said thoughtfully.

“And we also noticed the light. What do you think it is?”

“I don’t know but I’m about to find out.”

There was a tree. It was the oldest tree in Misty’s garden. The light came out in such a way, you could make out an arch. There was some sort of door there. Misty opened it. There was a passageway. She went in. It was dark so she couldn’t see where she was going. Suddenly, she dropped! She was falling at what seemed like 100 miles per hour! Then she landed with a thud.
