I felt the sharp knife stab me multiple times. My body was already lifeless. I think she was saying something as she slowly killed me. Her voice became a muffle, unable to understand what she was saying.

She laughed as she saw me there. That look in her eyes, I will never forget it. She wrapped me up in something and carried me. She placed me down, then came back and got me again. I felt myself falling. I hit hard and painful things on my way down.

As I rolled down, I felt myself unraveling. My body laid in a muddy puddle. I can hear the footsteps walking away. “Do not go! Come back. Save me, please!” I was trying to call out, but I could not.

I cried.

I heard hissing sounds and a cold feeling wrapping itself around my body. Dark snake-like clouds surround me.

I felt intense pain all over my body.

It was consuming me. Everything was turning black.

“Come on, finish up. We have to get going again.” A mom spoke to her kids. They all look so happy. It bothers me that they are so lively.

I noticed how the mother wiped the little girl’s mouth, how they smiled at each other. I took a bite of my toast, “Don’t ruin their day.” I whispered to myself.

All of a sudden, their table started shaking.

The drinks spilled on them. The tires of their car blow out.

I quietly giggled as I saw all this unravel.

The waiter came with my bill. I paid and walked out with a big smile on my face. “Now, that made my day better.”

“I saw that!” I stopped and tilted my head. Is someone talking to me? Nah. I shook my head and kept walking. Then a woman with a short blue bob and hazel eyes stopped in front of me. “I saw what you did.” She repeated.

I tilted my head and pointed to myself. She nods. I lift an eyebrow and lean in, “And what exactly did you see?”

“I don’t know. But I know what happened because of you.” She stood her ground.

“Really? How so? I do not have powers, like most of you. You should not say things that you do not know.” I smirk and walk away. “Don’t turn her attention elsewhere.”

There was a commotion on the other side of the lot. She looked towards it, giving me the chance to leave.

I almost make it into the house when someone stops me. “Have you thought about the offer?”

I smirk, “I thought I told you I was not interested.”

“I thought you needed time to rethink. I did not like the answer you gave me last time.” That person chucks.

I put my key into the lock, “Let me repeat myself. Hopefully, this will be the last time. I am not interested in your offer. I do not plan to accept it, ever.” I walked inside the house, closing the door behind me.

“You’re home?” I walked to the living room and see Nana.

I walked over to her and sat next to her. “I’m sorry for coming back late. Are you hungry? I brought you lunch from Lucie’s.”

“Is it my favorite?” She smiles.

“Yea.” I help her up and lead her to the table. Nana has gotten so old. She is a blind widow who found me when I was little and took me as her own. I do not remember who I am or what my name was. She named me Dont, I’m not sure why she did, but I feel like it suits me.

I have to hide my darkness from her, but deep down inside me, I feel like she knows. I took out her food and guided her hands to it. I watched her eat and smiled.

“This is so good.” She laughed.

“I’m happy you like it.” I laid my chin on top of my hands.

“Did you think about the college you want to attend? Mr. Rows said you could get into any college with the grades you have.” She pulled out something from her cardigan pocket. She looked for my hand and placed a pamphlet on it. “This is a great art school. Did you not say you would want to go there someday?”

I look at the pamphlet. “Nana.”

“I know, my dear. But I refuse to keep you from going. I’ll be fine, and you know it. Miss. Jade likes to keep my company as well.” She takes my hands, “Please, do it for me.”

I sighed, “Fine. I’ll go. But I will come every chance I get. You have to call me for any little emergency. I do not care how small you have to call me, okay?”

She laughs, “Alright.” I smiled and hugged her.

“Do you have everything?” Nana asked me.

“Yes. I double-checked everything.” I closed the last of my luggage. “Miss. Jade, please look after her. You have my number.”

Miss. Jade giggled, “Don’t worry, sweetie. Your Nana is like my mother. I’ll treat her as such and call if anything.”

I finished putting the last of my things in my car. I walked to Nana and hugged her tightly. “Don’t worry. I will be protecting you.”

“I know, my dear.” Nana hugged me tightly, “Now go on. You have a long way to go.”

“Okay.” I squeezed her hands gently and kissed them. “I will see you soon.” I got in the car and started the engine, “Two of you, don’t protect my Nana.” Two shadows leave my side and stick to my Nana. I smile and start driving.
