Population of 786. Riverwood is one of those places that seem nice. Happy, joyful, but as the saying goes, don’t judge a book by its cover, or should I say don’t judge a town by its appearance. You see, Riverwood is full of murder, lies and secrets that have been held by every family, no matter the innocence. Even visitors have left completely different people. Even the kids have their lies and secrets, not as bad as the parents though. Riverwood is getting better, but it seems cursed. Because with every good year, there are ten bad years. Sadly, last year was a good year. This year, an old Riverwood baddy is returning, two to be exact. One’s a girl who was known for being a total bitch. The other, a black-masked killer.
This story begins with a new arrival in town. A mystery girl with a dark dark secret. Mona Kings. Mona was born and raised in Australia. She didn’t ride Kangaroos to school or have an Aussie language. Things in Australia are rarely what are said and told. Barley any ‘Aussies’. Mona had moved because Hannah, Mona’s mom, had a business opportunity that she couldn’t refuse. They’re the richest in Riverwood as of the second they left the train and hopped into a taxi toward their new home.
Speaking of the train, someone else got off, returning from New York. Penny Heather hopped off the train and walked towards the exit. Penny is the town's Queen B. Her family owns a big mansion in the centre. Penny and Jarredine Wood, her half brother, just left to get a break from Riverwood. Penny wouldn’t tell Jarredine why though. They stayed with their grandparents. But they were too sweet, they smothered them everywhere they went. Now they’re escaping them. The first thing on Penny’s mind; call Paige. Little did she know, Paige found someone else to kiss.
Paige Corvell lied on her bed with Rihanna’s Shut up and Drive playing loudly. Dorathy Willow leaned over and kissed her. Rubbing her lips on Paige’s. Brushing her pale white skin on Paige’s golden skin. Their hair intertwining, fingers locking together.
“I-I-I have a girlfriend,” Paige whispered, “This feels wrong.”
“Isn’t that the best part?” Dorathy asked as she whispered in Paige’s ear, “The secrecy, the pleasure. What she doesn’t know doesn’t kill her.”
As they continued to make out, Paige’s phone rang. Sera tried calling but Paige couldn’t hear the phone because of the loud music
Zoe Cameron sat with Levi Lyons watching Barbra Streisand’s Funny Girl. It was Levi’s favourite movie, he’d idolised Barbra Streisand. He aspires to be her one day. Levi wanted to be an actor, the only dream he really had. He had other dreams along the way but mainly this one. Zoe on the other hand didn’t know what she wanted to do. It was a mystery to her.
“I still don’t get this movie,” Zoe said, “So she wants to be an actress, but ditched it for a guy?”
“It’s about how her decision and choices shape her,” Levi enlightened, “She is in love but she also wants to be a star, not an extra.”
“Well I think that’s selfish of her,” Zoe opinionated, “Plus…”
Zoe’s phone buzzed. Zoe picked it up and saw the notification. “Shit,” Zoe mumbled.
“What?” Levi asked.
Zoe looked at him with wide eyes. “Penny’s back,” Zoe said.
Levi looked at her blankly. “She better not start anything,” Levi said as he picked up his phone and texted Paige.
Sera Wilson sat in Janet’s, her mom’s, office. Janet is the mayor of Riverwood. But with everything going on, some believe she isn’t fit to be mayor. But she tries her best.
Sera’s phone started ringing and Sera answered it. “This is she,” Sera began, “Who are you? Penny? Her freaky brother? Let me call you back.”
“Who was it, sweetie?” Janet asked, “Someone from school?”
“No one," Sera said smiling.
Later that night Penny walked up to her house and stood at the mailbox. She smiled, she could tell someone was watching her.
“I smell Loser,” Penny laughed, “Come out Levi.”
Levi came out from behind a car and walked up to her.
“What are you doing back?” Levi asked, “Did you forget why you left?”
“No, I didn’t,” Penny answered, “Did you forget who was also responsible?”
“It was your gun,” Levi whispered.
“Who will they believe?” Penny asked, “Me, a high-class rich girl? or you, the son of a murderer?”
“I’d rather go down for a crime than lie about it,” Levi began.
“Cut the bullshit you gross domestic product,” Penny bitched, “You, me, everyone in Riverwood lives on ‘Lies’. We thrive with every pleasure, the thrill of watching someone fall for a manipulated truth. You just want to see me gone.”
Levi looked at her and smiled. “Watch yourself, Penny,” Levi threatened, “You can be the world’s best liar, but the truth always comes out.” Levi looked up and saw Jarredine in the top window with it wide open.
“You were going to kill me and your mom…” Levi began.
“She’s not my mom!” Penny hissed, “She’s a bitch who deserved to die!”
“Goodbye,” Levi said as he walked away.
The next day Mona walked into the principal's office.
“Welcome to Riverwood High School, more importantly, welcome to Riverwood,” Ken welcomed. He was bright and chirpy. This made Mona cringe a bit. “I am Ken Kennedy and I am happy to have you in our school,” Ken added.
“I am happy to be here sir, hopefully, you see how much of a wonderful student I am,” Mona gloated, “I have wonderful knowledge and was top of all my classes but PE, but like that counts.”
“I know, Miss Queen they called you,” Ken said as he took out a file, “One issue was your addiction to, well what the kids nowadays call; Speed.”
Mona froze. Why would he bring that up? Mona had an addiction to amphetamines because she was struggling with private issues, but she was clean now. It was all put in the past. Mona thought it was literally put in the past.
“I made a recovery,” Mona said.
“Hope to see that,” Ken said, “I’ll see you around.”
Levi walked down the hall and passed Paige who was talking to Dorathy. Levi heard the faint, ‘Penny can never know’ from Paige. Levi went to go to his locker but Jarredine pulled him into the boys' restroom.
“Is it true?” Jarredine asked.
“I didn’t…” Levi began. He was going to say he didn’t mean to kill her. It was an accident.
“Did Penny kill my mom?” Jarredine asked.
Levi looked at him blankly and remembered what happened.
Levi walked into his shed to see Adeline Heather-Wood, Jarredine’s mom, sitting on a wooden chair, tied up. He mouth taped.
“Mrs Heather-Wood,” Levi gasped as he quickly went up to her. He pulled the tape off her mouth.
“Behind you,” Adeline cried.
Levi turned around to see Penny standing with a gun.
“Hello Levi, how’s life?” Penny creepily asked, “I hear it’s cold!”
Levi quickly grabbed her arm and tried to pull the gun out of her hands.
“I will kill you…” Penny began till two shots rang out. The room went silent. Then, a thud, a body drop. Adeline fell to the ground, chair tumbling on her and a bullet in her head and chest.
“I only had two bullets,” Penny whispered, “And you were my priority.”
“Yes,” Levi lied, “She just stood there and shot two bullets at her.”
Jarredine started crying, “I knew there was a reason she wanted to escape Riverwood,” Jarredine cried, “I always had a feeling.”
“I’m sorry,” Levi apologised, “I was there and I didn’t say anything, I couldn’t.”
“I know, she blackmails everyone,” Jarredine cried.
“If there’s anything I could do…” Levi began.
“Tell the police,” Jarredine said.
“I will,” Levi whispered. He had a plan for it to happen, without anyone realising that he was involved.
“Paige!” Penny cheered as she hugged her.
Dorathy cringed and rolled her eyes. Dorathy thinks Paige deserves better than someone who gets off at hurting people.
“Hey, I’m Dorathy,” Dorathy awkwardly said.
“Oh,” Penny realised who she was, “At prom last year. You’re that girl who did that Hand Jive thing, that to me, looked more like a Hand J…”
“Penny!” Paige interrupted, “How about we occupy the broom closet.”
Paige dragged Penny away as Dorathy crossed her arms. She shut her locker and walked ahead.
Mona, Dorathy, Paige, Jarredine and Levi sat in music. Dorathy and Paige sat together and Jarredine and Levi sat together. Mona sat by herself.
“I kinda feel bad for the new girl,” Levi said, “I’m usually the one by myself.”
“She’ll get used to it,” Jarredine said.
Dominic Bluestone walked in with sheet music.
“Welcome to a new year of fun,” Dominic welcomed, “Our goal is to make it to nationals, but this week, I want dreams. Levi, demonstrate.”
Levi got up and took the sheet music. He smiled. Dominic started playing the piano.
Levi: *Ilene Woods, A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes*
Levi finished singing and sat back down. Everyone started clapping.
“I didn’t know you could sing,” Jarredine said, “You hit the high notes with ease.”
“You don’t know me,” Levi reminded him.
Penny, Zoe and Sera sat in chemistry listening to Amber Christy teach the class. Sera sat with Zoe, eying Penny.
“Penny, come write the answer on the board,” Amber called out.
Penny got up and walked up to the chalkboard.
“Zero,” Zoe whispered.
Penny wrote a 2 squared on the board.
“Idiot,” Sera whispered.
“The answer is actually Zero,” Amber said. Amber gave her a dirty look. Amber hated Penny. Amber and Levi were half-siblings. Penny hurt Levi and, what Amber says, made him a monster.
“I’m sorry,” Penny apologised.
“You need to start paying attention in my classes,” Amber said handing her a blue card, “Your laziness may have passed last year, but this year you need to start acting like a good student.”
“I can’t do a blue card,” Penny whispered, “I could get kicked from the school.”
“That’s not my problem,” Amber said, “You decided that you’d do nothing and get everyone to do things for you.”
Penny smiled. “Thanks,” Penny thanked as she walked back to her seat.
“Spoiled brat,” Amber mumbled.
Hannah walked into Brite Café. Mona didn’t know this, but this is where Hannah was born and raised. Brite Café is where it all began. Her friendship with, what they called, Riverwood’s Finest. Hannah Kings, Janet Wilson, Lucy Willow and Mariah Baker. Hannah looked over and saw Janet and Lucy sitting down in the couch area. Hannah walked over and sat with them.
“Hannah!” Janet squealed as she hugged her tightly, “I haven’t seen you since we were kids.”
“Yeah, I never liked this town,” Hannah said, “I needed to get out of here.”
“But this is our home,” Janet said, “I’m trying to make it better.”
“And you’re doing a good job, thanks for getting rid of that creepy statue of a Phoenix,” Hannah thanked.
“Oh, that had to god,” Janet laughed, “Remember when the Riverwood Slasher chased us that night and you almost shat yourself seeing him and then the Phoenix?”
“How could I forget? I had nightmares from that day on,” Hannah laughed, “I couldn’t even watch the second Harry Potter movie.”
“Who was the Riverwood Slasher?” Lucy asked.
“Darcy Sapphire,” Janet said, “He died in Prison two years ago.”
“Thank god,” Hannah said, “We barely survived the last time.”
Suddenly Janet’s phone started ringing.
“Sorry, it’s Tahleena, our Deputy Chief,” Janet said as she answered the phone, “Yo go for Wilson. What? Where? When? I’ll be down now.”
“Wanna help with a murder ex-detective?” Janet asked as she got up.
Tahleena Connolly stood over a dead high school student. She was pale and had red roses around her. Her heart was carved out.
Hannah and Janet came over.
“Riverwood Slasher!” Janet and Hannah yelled at the same time.
“I know,” Harry Helena said walking over. He’s the Chief.
“Who’s that?” Tahleena asked.
“A serial killer who should be dead,” Hannah said, “Judging by her skin, heart, blood and those roses, she’s been here since late last night, roughly 10 O’clock.”
Tahleena looked at the body and roses. She licked her lips and smiled. “I was going to say that too,” Tahleena lied.
“Regardless, work on this privately,” Janet said.
“I agree,” Harry agreed, “We can’t risk backlash.”
“I highly doubt it was him anyway,” Hannah said, “The killer doesn’t leave notes.”
“What?” Tahleena asked.
“Her heart-hole-thingy in her chest,” Hannah said pointing to the note slightly visible in her chest.
Tahleena picked up the note and read it. “I’m not a killer you know, but I am one you’ve heard of. Don’t worry I have a list, only one of you is on. Wish me luck, by 12, the blood bath will commence. Prey and prey that you don’t end up dead,” Tahleena read.
“So it’s a wannabe,” Hannah said, “This is going to be a piece of cake.”
“
Thanks for walking me home,” Levi thanked.
“It was no problem,” Jarredine said as he handed Levi his coat.
“I’ll see you tomorrow then,” Levi said as he went to walk up his stairs.
“Goodnight, Levi,” Jarredine whispered.
As Jarredine left, Levi walked inside. He looked out the window. He smiled, then noticed someone across the road. His eyes widened as he quickly hid himself away from the window.
“Riverwood Slasher,” Levi gasped.
The next day Levi sat at the police station in Tahleena’s office. Tahleena is the half sister of Levi and Amber.“So Penny killed Adeline Heather-Wood and you saw Riverwood Slasher?” Tahleena asked.
“Yes,” Levi answered.
“Well, I believe you, but let it brush over,” Tahleena said, “Adeline’s death will remain unsolved and this so called Riverwood Slasher has not returned.”
“But I saw...” Levi began.
“You saw a figment of your imagination,” Tahleena said, “I’m sorry, but I will not have a panic over nothing.”
“2076,” Levi said.
Tahleena looked at him blank and rolled her eyes. “Am I meant to know what that means?” Tahleena asked.
“2076 people lived in the town of Riverwood, after the Riverwood Slasher finished, there was only 1046 people left,” Levi said, “My math is rough but that!s over a thousand, only 786 people are here now.”
“I’m sorry, I can’t do anything about a theory you have,” Tahleena said.
Levi rushed up and stormed toward her office door. He stopped and turned to face her. “I liked you better when you had a heart,” Levi hissed, “If only Amber new how much of a Righteous Bitch you are now.” Levi stormed out of the office.
Tahleena watched as she left. She started to tear up. She believed him. She wanted to help, but she couldn’t. Both the mayor and the chief have given orders not to strike on this. But not to investigate Adeline’s death.
Tahleena walked into the Levi’s barn.“For a teenager living by himself, he has a reasonable home, barn and everything seems nice,” Tahleena said as Hannah walked in.
“My house looks way better than this,” Hannah said, “Hey look, security cameras.”
Hannah pointed at two security cameras either side of the barn.
“How?” Tahleena began, “You have like superpowers or something.”
“I’m an ex-detective,” Hannah said, “You learn to look for the little things.”
“Well, now we just need...” Tahleena began. She then noticed a large box in the corner, “Hold the phone.” Tahleena walked over to the box and opened it. She gasped at it’s contents.
“What?” Hannah asked walking over.
“I don’t think Levi saw the Riverwood Slasher,” Tahleena said, “I think he is the Riverwood Slasher.”
Hannah gasped when she saw the Roses in the box. There had to be hundreds in there.
Levi walked into school. He didn’t look himself. He had baggy eyes and looked like he’d seen a ghost. He wore skinny black jeans and a black zipped hoodie. The only thing he carried was his long black coffee, no sugars. Levi walked to his locker and opened it. A note fell out. He got out his English stuff and shut his locker, leaving his coffee in it.“Hey,” Jarredine said as Levi shut his locker door.
Levi jumped in shock. He was startled. “I tried,” Levi said, “Tahleena doesn’t believe me.”
“I’m moving out,” Jarredine said, “I was wondering if I could have a place to stay.”
“No,” Levi quickly said, “I don’t know you. All I know is you’re the half brother of a murderous bitch who bullies me and my friends and you have this freakish eye thing where I’m drawn into you.” Levi stormed off toward English class.
“What did I do to deserve that?” Jarredine asked himself.
In English Levi sat at the front. Jarredine sat at the back with the new kid.
“And that at the front,” Jarredine said looking at Levi, “Is Gods beautiful creation, Levi.”
“You’re Christian?” Mona asked, “And you like him?”
“Yes to the first and maybe to the second but definitely not a yes,” Jarredine answered.
“I’m not gonna pretend I understood that,” Mona lightly laughed, “But it’s clear you do, so go for it.”
“I can’t,” Jarredine said resting his elbow on the table and his head in his hand, “He’s a guy.”
“So?” Mona asked, “My favourite female celebrities are gay or pan; Miley Cyrus, Ellen Page, Kristin Stewart, Cara Delevingne and Bella Thorne.”
“Really? Bella Thorne?” Jarredine asked, “Wait, they’re girls.”
“Oh; Neil Patrick Harris, Chris Colfer, Wentworth Miller and Adam Lambert,” Mona listed.
“You’re right, I need to tell him...” Jarredine began.
“Hello class,” Tyler Rivers said walking into the room, “I am Mr Rivers, your new teacher.”
“Shit,” Levi mumbled lifting the book over his face.
Tyler wrote his name on the board in a fancy writing and then wrote the word Love.
“Love is one of the most topics written about in the English language,” Tyler enlightened, “What’s your favourite love story, poem or even song. You, with the book over your face.”
Levi lowered the book.
“Crap,” Tyler whispered.
“Levi Lyons,” Janet said walking in.
Levi stood up. She walked in with Hannah and Tahleena.
“Yes?” Levi asked.
“You are under arrest for suspicion of the murder of Jacinta Polly and being the new Riverwood Slasher,” Janet said as Tahleena cuffed him.
Penny smiled as put her phone back in her desk. Jarredine turned around and saw her. He could tell she was up to something, like framing him. Sera looked at her and could see it too.
“There was a large box of roses in your barn,” Tahleena said, “The body had roses surrounding it. I don’t think you’re capable of murder, but this makes you look bad.”Levi sat silent. He was hurt that Tahleena would think he was capable of murder.
“Can you answer?” Hannah asked, “Are you the Riverwood Slasher?”
Levi looked at her. “I don’t know,” Levi said, “You arrested me.”
Tahleena rolled her eyes. “Lock him up,” Tahleena said, “If another body drops at 12, he goes free.”
“What?” Hannah asked, “You’re just gonna risk someone’s life.”
“Well it’s been five hours now, so only nine hours till 12, I say go for it,” Tahleena said.
“I have to agree with mystery woman,” Levi said, “You’re willing to risk innocent lives because you have disbelief that I’m not a murderer and am in fact being framed.”
“I don’t disbelieve anything,” Tahleena said, “But you can’t deny evidence .”
“You can’t deny family either,” Levi said, “But it seems you’ve succeeded in that one.”
“I am sick of your rudeness towards me,” Tahleena began.
“I’m sick of the new Tahleena that ruined our family,” Levi finished.
“No,” Tahleena hissed, “You wanna know what ruined it. You and your need to always be the one with the last word, that’s why Amber left, why I left, Probably even why your mommy left and daddy tried his hardest to get rid of...”
Levi got up and slapped Tahleena. Right across the face. Tahleena’s head flung across her should with force.
“Did that hurt?” Levi asked, it not in a question way. He held his head high, tried not to cry or show it. He muttered it with a low whisper.
“Like I said,” Tahleena said, “The one with the last word.”

Later that night at 11:59 p.m Hannah sat with Mona at the kitchen table holding her hand.
Sera sat in the station with Janet and Tahleena.
Paige and Dorathy sat on the couch watching TV and eating popcorn.
Jarredine sat on his bed reading his French paper.
Amber poured herself a glass of water and drank it slowly. She grabbed a subscription of Anti-Depressants and took one.
Penny walked out of Dominic Bluestones office with blood all over her body. She walked down the hall. Inside Dominic’s Office, Beatrice Jackson liked with her heart ripped out and roses around the body.
Levi sat in the cell staring at the clock. The clock hit 12.
The next morning the police arrived at Riverwood High.
“What did you see?” Tahleena asked, “Did you see who killed her?”
“Riverwood Slasher is back,” Penny cried, “I tried to stop the blood, it was going to kill me.”
“The roses weren’t his, he was framed,” Tahleena whispered.
“Roses?” Penny asked, “You mean the box I put in Levi’s barn? That was an apology box.”
“What?” Tahleena asked, “Why are you apologising.” She’d remember what Levi said about her killing Adeline.
“Nothing, it’s a private thing,” Penny quickly said.
Penny’s phone chimed. So did Tahleena’s. Everyone’s did.
Sera opened the notification and gasped.
“As you might’ve heard, I’ve returned,” Levi began to read as he stood out of the Police station.
“I was feared before, now I will be once more,” Paige continued as she and Dorathy sat up in her bed.
“I’ve got a game, one we all can play,” Zoe continued.
“It’s called catch me if you can, doubt you can,” Jarredine read.
“I’ll leave a note of instructions and rules, must play if you get one or you become a blood pool,” Mona continued as she lied on her bed.
“I have a list plus the people chosen, prey you don’t die,” Hannah continued sitting on her couch.
“Penny should’ve died, oh well, let the blood bath commence,” Penny finished.
