Prologue

-‘Hard truths can be dealt with, triumphed over, but lies will destroy your soul.’- Something my mother always told me. I never really new what she was talking about, mainly because I’m pretty sure she got that off a fortune cookie or something. But as I got older I started to realize there was some truth to her words. Living in the messed up neighborhood I used to live in you would rarely know the difference.

They would lie straight to your face and sometimes you wouldn’t even know, but you had to be able to lie if you wanted to survive. Even if it was from the clerk at a corner store or a thug trying to make ends meet by working in the streets. And sometimes your whole life could be based on a lie and you still wouldn’t know. At least that’s what my mother did to me.

Time after time she would tell me that my father left us and that he never wanted me. That he didn’t even want me to be born. And with that thought there was a lot of anger in me. So much anger that I had to be sent away to me mother’s brother who I refused to call uncle. He trained me to fight, shoot, hunt, track, anything you could think of, he taught it all.

To say I would be grateful if he wasn’t an abusive asshole. I mean he did teach me everything I know to protect myself. Up until 3 years ago when he died and I moved back in with mom. My anger was still there though. He didn’t really teach me to control but more of how to use it to my advantage. After coming back I did a lot of things that could’ve ended with me dead. If anything my mother should have told me then and there but she still said nothing.

That was until last year on my 17 birthday when a man showed up claiming to be my father. At first I didn’t believe it to be true, until I saw the look on my mother’s face when she confirmed it. In my head I though ‘How could this be true. There’s no way that he could be my father. My dad doesn’t even want me. To hell with him! To hell with everyone! He should just leave.’

A lot of anger was going through me so much that I blacked out. When I woke up, I was in an unknown bed in a beautiful mansion.

Apparently my mother left and didn’t tell my father she was pregnant with me. Since he obviously didn’t want a serious relationship with her, she wouldn’t let him know about me. Selfish right!

Dad only knew because when he was visiting my

old neighborhood for some business, he heard about me from and underground fighters club and since my last name which is Santiago same as his, he found who my mother was and the dates together. I guess it wasn’t that hard since he found me that day and with confirmation from my mother and a DNA test with lots of lawyers he got custody over me. Now It’s a year later and I’m 18 living with him and his family. My new Home!
