Chapter 1 || Annie

The winds are restless, snow is freezing my face as the flakes hit me like stones. Time is running out... As I dart around this tree and that tree, I hear a blaring siren. They’re loose... My hands grasp at the trunk of the nearby tree and I pull myself up, branch after branch until I am successfully hidden in the leaves. I hear a patter of feet, trudging through the snow below and she comes into view. My seeker. Her golden hair flies in the winter wind, decorated with little snowflakes. I catch a waft of strawberry as her waves blow upwards. Her blue eyes dart around her in desperation, but her expression remained calm. In her right hand, she held a bow and positioned on her right shoulder was a quiver, which held many arrows, each one was sharpened to a point. She raises her head and inhales deeply, gasping greedily. I bury myself further into the trees, trying to hide my scent.

“Come out, come out wherever you are!” She taunts, circling the trees around me. She inhales again, “I know you’re there.” She calls. I steady my deep breathing, and grip the tree branch harder, which causes the tree to shake a little, and her head snaps towards the direction of the rustling leaves. She snatches an arrow from quiver attaches it to her bow within seconds, scanning each treetop. “I’m ready...!” She calls. My body begins to shake uncontrollably and her finger leaves the bow, the arrow whistles through the air, nestling in the trunk of the tree, inches away from me. “I never miss my target.” She says with a greedy smirk as I topple from my hiding place, landing on the ground in front of her feet. She pulls the bow string to her cheek and points the arrow to me. “Found you...”
