Prologue

Sometimes life takes us through unexpected trials. You want something and you go for it, but God usually has other plans. Do you follow and trust Him or ignore that path all together?

I never in a million years would think that I would be where I am today. I mean, I’d dreamed of a life similar to this but for it to actually happen, is beyond anything I could ever imagine.

Hello, my name is Coffee.

Yeah, I know what you’re thinking... Were your parents high on caffeine when they gave you that name? The truth is, no. They had no say so in that particular name. My slave name is Kalyssa. I say ‘slave name’ because growing up with my parents sometimes made me feel trapped. I didn’t have much freedom when it came to making my own decisions. So, when I finally broke free at age 18, I changed my name legally to Coffee because I liked how smooth it rolled off the tongue. Well, besides the fact that many people told me I have the complexion of a perfectly blended mix of coffee with a drop of cream.

Ironically, at age 19, I got a job at a local coffee house where I had the freedom to relax among the customers during my break and read a nice book.

To be honest, I’m not really much of a reader. I enjoy writing a helluva lot more. I don’t even bother reading my own work! Not even when I make grammatical or punctuation corrections. I’m more of a skimmer when it comes to editing anything I’ve written.

Weird huh?

Yeah, well... That’s me. I’ve always been weird. But, I’m sure I’m not alone in this.

Anyway, you’re probably wondering what exactly I was referring to earlier. You know, about being somewhere I’ve dreamed of. I’ll get to that eventually as the story goes on.

Yes, yes, you want to know now. All in due time. Patience is key.

It all happened so fast that it’s hard to figure out exactly where to start. So, I’ll just stop rambling and get to the story. It’ll piece itself together.
