Introduction
It’s worth noting that while this short story are based on real historical events, not every aspect of it is non-fiction. Given that this is historical fiction, I’ve taken some liberties, while also attempting to provide the reader with as true and accurate of a picture as I can. The unnamed main character of this short story is completely fictional and not based on anyone that really existed. So while there were only a few foreigners in Nanking at the time, this is not one of them. It’s also worth noting that none of the victims are real. I based them loosely off of various cases I came across while researching for this short story, but none of them is supposed to represent a real victim of the Rape of Nanking. Finally, I don’t think I can give a full and accurate history of these events through this short story, so I advise and suggest the reader to read more about this massacre themselves, as it is a truly shocking period in history that very few people in the West actually seem to know about.
