Chapter 1
I am awakened by a sweet sound drifting into my dreams, wrapping itself around me and pulling me out of my slumber. I yawn lazily, rubbing my eyes. The room is submerged in a soft grey hue signifying that it is not yet morning. The display on my phone lets me know that it is 3:25 in the morning. The gentle sound of piano chords flows through the door. It wasn’t a dream then. I slide off the bed and pat softly into the living room, my blanket wrapped tightly around me.
As I enter the large open space I am enveloped by a gentle, bittersweet melody. The lid of the grand piano is down, muffling the music and giving it a slightly eerie, melancholy tone. It soothes me, and I feel myself relax as I stop at the edge of the piano. My gaze rests on the handsome figure sitting across the piano, his hands flying over the keys in the most elegant manner.
“It sounds lonely.”
“It’s bittersweet. Do you like it?”
“It’s beautiful, Lysander.”
“Just like you.”
I smile. Not the shy smile of a young girl when she gets a compliment. Not a polite smile as a way of accepting the compliment. No. My smile is that of understanding and acceptance and love. It is a smile that says “I know”, and a smile that radiates gratitude for having this person in my life who truly believes these words.
The song is over and we are left gazing into each other’s eyes, the only sound being heard is my breathing. No matter how many times I have seen those eyes, they will never cease to mesmerize me. I am lost in the deep ocean, full of marvelous secrets and mischievous intentions, engulfing me into its depths.
“Come.”
We walk together back to the bedroom, his hand draped lovingly around my shoulder. It makes me feel safe and at peace. Loved.
The bed looks at us invitingly, all ruffled sheets and feathery pillows. Lysander walks me to it and gently lowers me onto the mattress. I sink into the softness, the silk bedsheets caressing my bare back. Lysander is above me, his chest bare, and I run my hand along it. I am captivated by his beauty, by his perfect body. Perfect just for me.
He leans in and we share a passionate kiss full of longing. His hands run along my body, brushing every point that makes me want him more and more with his fingers. I let out a soft moan. His hands are tracing the curves of my body under my nightgown as he trails kisses down my neck. Every single stroke and kiss sends desire surging through my body and I unravel under his touch.
The melody softly playing in my mind, I become lost in him. The man I love.
