Chapter 1
My true identity is something that only my sisters know, but as time goes on there will be one who will come to know it too. The safety of those young and old and as innocent as they come is what is most important to me and my sisters. So, for that reason, I go by Cerberus and this is my story. This is how during the prime of my career of being an assassin I not only meet my match but my one true love.
Cerberus
Being an assassin is tiring, but being at the very top of the list of hundreds of other girls is 100 times worse. Most of my unit is dead....maybe a possibility of being alive but the price on our heads is high and the higher you are in rank the higher the price.
“Again Kaiea! If you expect to be as good as me you need to do better!” I said to her as I saw her get up and run towards me at full speed. There was something about her that reminded me of myself when I first came here 15 years ago. The very first moment I meet her I knew she was going to be my predecessor.
“You are no longer a child, a kid, a person whose feelings are cared about. Each and every one of you are here to become warriors of the night. The strongest women in the streets making sure that some part of the world is the same. We do not kill the old or innocent unless proven guilty and you will be the ones who make that decision before each kill you make. Do you understand?” She yelled at us.
I do not know who this woman is, but with nothing or nobody, she is the only person I aspire to be in this world.
“Are you deaf? I said do you understand warrior!” General said to me. ” I-I ” I muttered. “So not only are you deaf, but you stutter as well. All of you! Listen and listen well. You no longer are who you believed you were when you walked in through that door nor will you be leaving the same way you came. I am the general and your commanding officer. Each and every one of you is under my command. You eat when I say, sleep when I say, and shit when I say. You no longer have names but numbers and stutter will be number one. First to everything except any luxuries if allowed. Am I clear?” The General asked.
" Yes, ma’am” We all yelled in unity. From that day forward we truly lived in hell.
Present
Kaiea truly needed work when it came to every type of combat. It was the only reason she hasn’t been given her title and ceremony of an assassin. “Kaiea, you must practice more. Your whole unit is out fighting and killing where we’re needed except for you. If you don’t get your shit together you’ll be stuck protecting the elders.” I explained to her.
“No matter how many hours I spend doing this I can’t get it down! Any of it. At this rate, I will never get my title! ” She exclaims.
I wonder if she thinks that I feel bad for her. If there’s one thing I know her head is never in the right place when training. I could kill her every single time we have ever trained together and it’s quite pathetic at this point.
“Alright,” I laughed as I looked down at her. ” I fucking get it for fucks sake and since you think it’s so fucking hard and you seem to need a tad more motivation maybe we should ship you to the Valyrian?” I said to her as she looked at me with a horrifying expression.
This was the first time I have ever had to use this threat on anybody I’ve had to train but the bitch is lucky for now. “Cerberus we have a problem.” I hear Artemisia tell me from the third floor. “Also Kaiea you’re on review on being sent to the Valyrian so I advise you to practice harder from now on.” Artemisia informed her.
As much as I know this would improve her skills she wouldn’t survive. Some of the toughest and most skilled warriors from the Valyrian have fought me and have lost, except for the one known as Adewale. One day I hope to fight him and put him on his ass, but for now, I will find out what this problem is and fix it.
Walking up to the third floor I realized that Artemisia looked worried and she never looked worried. “What is it Artemisia you look like you’re going to shit yourself.” I asked.
“He’s here Cerb. I never thought you two would meet. The two best assassins in the world in the same room. Do you know how dangerous that is hell does Libitina because it seems as if she doesn’t! God, what are we going to do if we get ambushed and they try to take as many as they can and sell us for money? It’s already bad enough I don’t like the price on my head... Well, personally I think it should be higher but that is a different conversation.” She ranted on.
“Listen, if he which I think you mean Adewale then it more serious than we imagine and this must be kept under wraps so only the top should know and as little information should be put out to the rest okay? Now for Adewale himself, I’m sure he would love to train with me since we have finally had the chance to meet. Yes?” I say as I walk towards the conference room.
“Cerb this is not the time to try to get that man in bed nor fight him when we should be fighting together.” Artemisia argues.
“Artemisia why can’t I do all of this just at the same time. No one has seen him before and the fact that we get to work so close together is perfect. Now let’s go.” As I open the doors my heart starts to beat faster.
Everybody stops talking as I walk in. I scan the room looking for Libitina but instead, meet his eyes. They’re the brightest blue I have ever seen on a killer and to make it even better he’s hotter than what I imagined.
As I start to walk towards him he decides to meet me halfway. When we’re standing in front of each other we size each other up waiting to see who dares to speak first.
“Take a picture it might last longer boy.” I say to him hoping to get a reaction.
He laughs. It’s a deep and scary type of laugh. One that sends butterflies to your stomach and makes you wet in your dreams.
“Well girl I’m Adewale but you already knew that didn’t you Cerberus?” He whispers low enough for just me to hear.
“I guess I did Adewale. I guess I did.” I mutter.
