Chapter 1
The doorbell ringing caused Selena to stir in her large bed slowly waking up. Her eyes opened slowly as the streams of light from the blinds shown on her face. Her gaze shifted to the alarm clock blaring the time of 9am. Who was waking her so early on a Saturday morning?
Selena had specifically taken the weekend off to relax and hold a day of self-care. She's been working extremely hard at the clinic for the past couple of weeks and needed a day for a breather. Her boss offered her more days to take off, but she refused as she didn't want to be home alone for so long.
The ring blares again causing her to growl before tossing the weighted blanket off of her body. Sitting up, she slipped her feet into the warm slippers next to the bed and picked up the silk robe wrapping it around her body.
Whoever was disturbing her peace this early was definitely going to hear it.
Running down the staircase, Selena unlocks the door revealing the face she didn't think she was going to see for a while. Tears prick at her eyes as she launched herself at her only child, Jacob.
"Hi Mom, you surprised?" Jacob laughed wrapping his arms around the small woman.
To say surprised would be the understatement. He had told her he wouldn't be able to come home for the winter break and now here he stood at his childhood home doorstep.
Jacob is Selena's 20-year-old son and absolute light of her life. He is currently enrolled in a university on the west coast far from their home on the east. He had gotten into a great engineering and computer science program. Although Selena was beyond proud for her son, she was sad that he was so far away. Jacob had never been apart from her till college.
When Selena was 14, she had gone through a dreadfully traumatic experience. Someone she had trusted her whole life; someone her family and friends had trusted sexually and physically assaulted her. The result led to this man getting sent to prison, Selena developing ptsd, and her falling pregnant.
Selena was broken beyond repair; at this tender age it seemed her life, that was just starting, had gotten ripped from her. She had severe ptsd and wasn't able to live how she normally would. And when it seemed like her life was being swallowed into the with darkness and fear, a light was shown. That light was her family and Kelsey, her best friend.
They had become that shoulder she needed to lean on and people she needed the most. She had begun seeing a therapist to deal with her experience and confided in her best friend and family on what she was feeling. They were supportive in any decision she would make and understanding of her feelings. They helped pull her out of the dark place and show her that her life still had purpose; they showed her there was still a light at the end of the tunnel.
That light being Jacob and her career. It was the hardest yet best decision she made as a teenager. It shaped her entire life from there.
"So surprised! What are you doing here?" Selena asked backing away from him.
A car door slam caused Selena to jump in place at the unexpected sound. Looking over Jacobs shoulder she spied his truck door closing. A tall man with dark hair and smooth tan skin pulled luggage along the walkway making his way towards them.
"Well, the internship I'm doing has an office near home so they said I can transfer over. Also, I wanted me coming to be a surprise, but I was also wondering if my friend can stay with us over the break as well."
Setting the luggage down, the man stepped up next to Jacob placing his hand out to Selena. He looked a couple years older than Jacob by his built and scruffy beard that covered his chin, possibly mid 20's. He was handsome, beautiful could even describe him.
Wait, why am I staring, she thought in her head.
Selena reached out shaking his hand in greeting.
"I'm Silas," he announced in a deep husky voice holding her hand a little longer than necessary, "Jake, you didn't tell me you had a sister."
Jacob groaned out elbowing Silas in the side causing him to let go of my hand.
"Don't be weird," Jacob said crossing his arms.
Selena laughed lightly, "I'll take that as a compliment. I'm Selena. It's absolutely fine that you stay with us during your break, we have plenty of extra room for you."
Silas throws her a small sexy smile causing Selena's stomach to tighten; the man was undeniably handsome, and it seemed any look he sent her caused her body to heat. This was new, this feeling coursing through her veins and burning her body from a simple look and touch. Selena's been on her fair share of dates with the innocent touches or glances, but none have made her feel this way.
Whatever this feeling may be, it has to disappear. I mean it's her son's friend for goodness sake, it's forbidden. They would be here for about a month; this feeling would disappear. It had to.

As Jacob and Silas put their clothing and such away, Selena thought to make breakfast for the three of them. It was still quite early and after their long flight she knew they would be hungry. Going into the kitchen, she quickly made her morning tea to get her ready to deal with the day.
Mental note to text Kelsey about Jacob being here, Selena reminded.
Selena made the food quickly. Placing the eggs, pancakes, toast, and chorizo on a large plate on the island Selena then began looking in the cabinet for some condiments. Jacob loved syrup on his eggs and pancakes since he was young, so she had always had some in the house. Although Selena wasn't a fan, she had always kept a bottle. Maybe Silas likes it also.
"Need any help, Selena..." Silas asked drawing out her name as he stood behind her bent over body.
The heat from his figure radiated onto her causing her face to burn bright red. She rapidly moved up straight and placed the syrup on the table. He was freshly showered, and hair soaked, droplets from the water running down his neck and wetting his shirt. She bit her lip looking away begging her heart to stop beating so fast. She's seen a lot of gorgeous men in her life so why is my heart beating so hard and fast at this one?
"No-No it's fine. I just need to grab the plates for the table," Selena rushed out going into the cabinet for plates.
Silas took a seat on the stool watching the small curvaceous woman moving around the kitchen grabbing the essentials. The moment his gaze locked onto Selena he knew he had to have her whether it be in his bed, his life, or both. Something inside of him craved this woman and although she was his friend's mom it didn't faze him at all.
He could tell how much he affected her the minute his hand shook with hers, the way her breath had hitched, and body tightened. She craved something in him just as he did her, but something told him she wouldn't act on it. However, they had a month together and he would do anything to make it happen.
Taking out three plates, Selena closed the cabinets then began placing each plate on the placemat along with the utensils. Placing the glasses in front of the plate for Jacob and Silas, she finally leans back finished with the breakfast set up.
Sipping on her tea, she can't help but feel his eyes on her and it made her more curious as to who this man is that Jacob calls his friend. From a young age, Jacob found it hard to make friends with children his age, so I knew someone was a true friend when he introduced them to me.
"So, Silas, tell me more about you. I mean, how did you and Jacob meet?"
"I met Jacob through a mutual friend of ours, Jayde. Nothing too crazy there," He stated before clasping his hands together, "And well, I'm 24, was born and raised in the UK for about 8 years but ended up moving to Costa Rica till I was 18. I then went to college in Japan for about 2 years. Now I live in America and am getting my master's in business administration."
"That's remarkable, I mean all the moving around, university major, and traveling to new places. I would love to be able to travel. What has been your favorite place so far?" Selena asked resting her chin on her hand.
"Tough to say but lately it's been right here."
Silas knew what he was getting himself into, but he was beyond attractive to the beautiful woman and knew she felt the same. Besides a little harmless teasing wouldn't hurt anyone, in fact it seemed that she liked it. She enjoyed his sultry words.
Selena went rigid at the sensual tone as she seen his eyes slightly dark as it took her silk clad body. She knew she was attracted to him; it was hard not to with the accented voice, large muscular form, and handsome features. But his attraction to her, it was a surprise and something that immediately sent alarm signs to her brain.
They were both attracted to one another, she knew she needed to nip this in the bud now.
As Selena was about to open her mouth, Jacob came into the kitchen and began filling his plate with all the breakfast foods and filling the silence with ramblings on how his semester had gone. Selena catches Silas's gaze as he winked to her and she looked away drawing her attention back to her son.
How was she going to get through this month with a ridiculously teasing man who seemed to want her just as much as she wanted him?
