Chapter 1: The Strange Mirror
The Present
I looked back at the mirror. It suddenly started cracking out of nowhere.
What was causing this?
No! I want to go home! Let me go!
I saw the mirror break into pieces and fall onto the ground.
I kneeled down and picked a piece of glass up. I turned it and inspected it.
I couldn’t see anything but white. It’s gone...I can’t go home anymore..
I turned around and looked at my sister. I could see the shock on her face.
“Your stuck here forever...” A high pitched voice said creepily. Then I heard laughing.
Then suddenly, my life started flashing through my eyes..
The Past
I jumped out of the truck.
“Ben, can you help us with putting the boxes up?” My mother asked looking at me before getting out of the truck.
I felt really lazy from carrying the boxes and putting them inside the truck, and I didn’t want to help unpack but I don’t want to say no to her.
“Sure, I’d be happy to help!” I said fake smiling at her.
She smiled back, “That’s great! Make sure to pay attention to the labels on the boxes, so you know where they belong!”
Mother then tossed me the keys to open the back of the truck.
I walked towards the back of the truck and used the keys on the sliver lock. I took the lock off and grabbed the chain. I opened the doors slowly.
My eyes widened as I forgot how many boxes we had packed.
I sighed and took 1 by 1 and going in and out of the house.
I scoffed at my sister as she smirked while she was playing games and I had to do all the work.
Introduction
Yes, its late but, my name is Ben, I’m 13 years old and I have a 14 year old sister.
My sister can sometimes be annoying and she’s a crybaby too, sometimes I can’t stand her...
But that’s all for the introduction, back to the main story!
After unboxing everything..
I took my shoes off and put them on the rack. I then fell over on my bed and fell fast asleep.
Later in the day...
I woke up and lazily picked up my phone. I quickly jumped up and noticed it was 6:00pm!
I got up and saw my sister walking by. I ran out and said, “Why didn’t you wake me up?!”
“It’s not my job to wake you up. That’s your problem.” She said as she walked away looking at her phone.
“Whatever..” I said under my breath and I walked back in my room. I jumped at what I had saw.
A blanket covering something. I pulled it off slowly and a strange mirror was under it. “This...wasn’t here before..” I said to myself talking out loud.
“What wasn’t here before?” I heard my sister say.
I jumped and quickly grabbed the blanket and covered the mirror. I turned around and saw my sister standing by the door and looking at her phone waiting for an answer.
“W-why are you in my room?!” I said flustered.
“I’m not in your room. I’m standing outside of your room dummy.” She said smiling.
“Alice!! You know what I mean! And I am NOT a dummy!” I said frowning.
She then put her phone in her pocket and crossed her arms still smiling. “Your always talking to yourself Ben!” Then I said, “You’re always being nosy!” to make a comeback.
She walked into my room and said, “Now, what are you hiding under that sheet?”
Then she tried to lift it up but I had to block her. “Yeah your definitely hiding something!” She said trying to push me out of her way.
I then pushed her out the door and quickly locked it before she could get in. I turned around and looked at the covered mirror.
I walked towards the mirror and took the sheet off once again. The mirror wasn’t showing my reflection, instead, it showed a beautiful, colorful galaxy.
I put my finger on the mirror and it passed right through.
“What is this..? Is this a portal to another world? Or maybe even a different timeline.!” I said in my head. Part of me was telling myself not to go in, but the other half was telling me to hurry up and go inside!
You probably know which one I listened to.
I slowly walked in with one foot and then slowly put my face through the mirror. On the other half of the mirror was the same pretty galaxy.
I fully walked into the mirror. I quickly turned around to see if the other half of the mirror was still there. Thankfully, it was.
I looked back at the galaxy and saw a white chair floating in front of me. I tried to walk towards it, but I started floating, which makes sense because I am in space after all.
I posed in a swimming position and tried to swim my way to the chair. Good thing it worked otherwise I would’ve been stuck.
Once I got to the chair, I grabbed it and put both of my legs onto the chair and sat down.
“Where would you like to go, Ben?” A high pitched voice said as soon as I sat on the chair.
I flinched and looked around, but only saw nothing but stars and colors.
“You can’t see me because I am just a voice! Or you can say, god!” The voice said.
“H-how do you know my name?” I said surprised.
“I cannot say.” They replied.
“Wait, so what is this place? And where did this mirror come from, and how was it made-” They interrupted me, “You ask a lot of questions Ben, curiosity could get you in trouble.”
I shot my head down at my hands because what they said was true. “What have I gotten myself into???” I thought to myself panicking.
“Do not panic Ben. It’s a safe place here. You can say, its like your own world, home, or just a place to separate from everyone, especially your sister.” They said.
I sat up in the chair and asked, “So.. What should I call you then?”
“Angel. A name after a supernatural being yes, but its a unique and a unisexual name.” Angel said.
I slowly nodded. I thought back to Angel’s original question. “Well, I would like to go to...” Then Angel interrupted me again.
“A futuristic city?” Angel said.
“Yeah-how did you know-” I said surprised.
Angel chuckled, “I know everything about you Ben!”
I smiled, “Wow. You knew I liked futuristic stuff..” I said.
Then the galaxy changed slowly into a glowing city with a splash of color everywhere! There were odd shaped buildings with glowing lights on them.
Slides that were twisting around the sky. I was in awe.
I got up from the chair and walked around the city. There were odd buildings and strange decorations everywhere. I even saw some flying vehicles!
Then I looked up. A beautiful aurora was lighting up the sky.
The lovely mix of light green, blue and purple colors were-
Then a voice interrupted my thinking. “Ben!!” The voice said. I looked at the mirror and started walking towards it.
The closer I came to the mirror the louder I heard my name being called. I didn’t want to leave yet..
I took my last step and saw my room on the other half of the mirror. “Ben? Are you sleep again? Ben!” The voice said.
“Mom! I’m here!” I said calling out.
“She won’t be able to hear you when your inside the mirror. In fact, when your out there in the real world, you can’t hear anyone or anything from the mirror.” Angel said.
“Oh. I didn’t want to leave yet..” I said looking at the city behind me. “Its so cool here.” I said finishing my sentence.
“You don’t have to leave. You can just stay here and do whatever you want Ben. You can stay here as long as you’d like.” Angel said.
I shook my head and looked back at the mirror. “No, I can’t just leave my family. I don’t want to worry them.” I said while walking towards the mirror.
“Okay, if you say so Ben. Make sure to come back soon!” Angel said.
I said goodbye and walked into the mirror.
Once I was out, I immediately fell to my knees.
I put both of my hands on the wooden floor.
Pain was in my whole body, why? What caused this? Was it the mirror?
I felt so weak, I had to crawl to the door. Luckily my mom was still there.
I tried to speak but it was too painful to move them. I relaxed myself and moved my lips slowly so I could open them. Thankfully that worked, so I tried to speak, “M-mom, I’m okay, I just took a little nap.” I said.
My voice was very dry when I spoke. I sounded like I was dehydrated.
“Do you need some water?” My mom asked worried.
“No, I am fine, thanks for asking though mom.” I said trying to sound normal.
“Okay then, tell me if you need anything Ben.” She said.
I could tell she was still a little worried. “Mom, I’m 13, I’m pretty sure I can handle myself.” I said forcing myself to chuckle.
“Well you are independent after all! I should go now.” She said then she walked away.
I sighed in relief and rested on the door. I looked over at my bed. I unlocked the door and then
I kept crawling and crawling and then I pulled onto my bed railing and climbed onto it slowly so I wouldn’t hurt myself.
I scrambled onto the bed and laid down.
I didn’t even bother checking my phone, I just put it behind my pillow.
I looked over at the mirror again. I looked back at my ceiling.
Is it a good idea to keep this mirror? What if something bad happens..?
I laid there in silence with those questions echoing in my head repeatedly.
As I closed my eyes, I had an answer for all of them.
It shouldn’t be a problem. I’m sure it’ll be fine.
