Chapter 1-Rejection

She was excited to see him. Her cheeks glowed with love for him. The apple of her eye. The man that she married six years ago. Every wrinkle was lovely.

The lines around his eye reminded her that although he is 24 years her senior, she loved him.

As she drew closer to the couch where he laid pensive, she climbed on top of him to kiss his face. But he raised his hands and brushed her off.

Her presence irritated him and this has been so for almost two years. He moved out of the marriage bed many moons ago without an explanation that made much sense to her.

For 24 months Karen Flyn had been deprived of the very thing she dreamt of all her life; being held at nights, kissed good night and simply being caressed and loved by her husband.

She slowly lifted herself from his lap and went away shamefully. Embarrassment and shame flushed her face. But that feeling was nothing new.

It has been happening for quite some time. However, that Sunday afternoon, Karen decided to try again.

Karen could have any man that she wanted. Perhaps not any, but she had people who were constantly flirting with her.

She was middle height, slim, beautiful, with thick perky lips and a personality that drew people to her. a

But all she wanted was her husband. Karen got married at 36 to a man who was 59 years at the time.

She always had a thing for older men and he had all the qualities she wanted in a partner. He was loyal, handsome, mature, he believed in God and he could provide for her easily.

So, when Randy asked her hand in marriage she said “yes” and in less than three months they were married and living together.

The bedroom was their favorite place. The kitchen too. Karen loved to cook and her husband loved to eat her food. He also enjoyed making love to his young and very vibrant wife.

Randy loved everything about his wife. But two years ago, something happened and the man went cold. Perhaps he became comfortable. He had no reason to peruse her anymore, because she was his.

Karen went into her bedroom. The place she spends the better part of her days and especially her lonely nights.

Randy never wanted Karen to work. He was wealthy enough to maintain her for the rest of her life. But she still worked. As little and irrelevant as he made her believe her job was, she took pride and pleasure in it.

She was a writter and producer for a radio station in her town.

Karen cared very little about the luxurious life that Randy ensured she lived; she just wanted her husband’s affection.

Karen jumped into her bed and pulled the quilt over her head and sobbed. The constant vibration of her phone annoyed her.

“Hey K…I’m thinking of you…Miss you a little”…

These words should have been coming from her husband. Reading the WhatsApp message from a medio colleague made her weep even harder.

"What exactly do you miss?", she replied, wiping her tears

Her friend replied "good question. our interaction".

Karen closed her eyes and prayed that her husband would appear in that lonely room. Even if it was just to lay next to her. But he never came.

The night got colder and Karen suddenly fell into darkness.
