Chapter One- Leaving Home

My alarm is set to go off in ten minutes but I've been awake for hours. Today is my first day of college at Barnard in New York! I'm so excited to finally gi to college! The only sad part I'd I'll be away from my boyfriend Nathan who is still a senior in high-school.But, he can still visit me and we can FaceTime whenever. Anwa--*ringgg it's been ten minutes already!?

"Taylor honey time to get up!"

Ugh. As I'm running down the stairs in my blue skinny jeans and my favorite pink top I smell something terrific. I'm unable to put my finger on it but it smells oddly familiar. I step down a few steps and my eyes go humongous as soon as I reach the bottom. U see two plates full of pancakes that stack so high they look like the Eiffel Tower. They are completely drenched in syrup with just the right amount of butter. When I see Nathan and his short brown curly hair I burst out laughing. He is wearing my moms flower apron, covered in flour, and a splattered egg is sliding down the wall. I start coughing because I am laughing so hard and then he begins to walk towards me laughing on his way over. Once we finally sit down and eat together I stare at hima and just the way he likes I remove his hair from. His eyes and kiss him on the cheek.

We jump in the car and get ready for the five hour ride from my home town Boston to New York! The entire car ride Nathan is talking about how he will miss me so I have to reassure him that he can visit every weekend and that we will FaceTime every day after my classes. We finally arrive and get up to my dorm I see the balcony and red haired girl in my room and immediately think well mom is gonna hate her. And like I predicted my mom walked in and clearly got the gitters and so did Nathan. I wasn't sure why exactly but I was already starting to like this girl. She seemed pretty cool. She then got off her bed pausing the card game her and her friend were playing.

"When I heard I was getting a freshman I was kinda pissed but you seem fun."

My mom then pulled me out of the room and tried to tell me that we were going to the front office to get a room change asap. I pulled my arm out of her grasp leaving her in complete shock and uder disbelief.

"Mom stop, I don't want a room change. That girl seemed nice." I said with a stronger voice than I had known I was capable of.

"She may have seemed nice to you but it wreaked of alcohol in there!"

"Maybe so, but I'm going to give her a chance. You don't have to."

At that point I turned away and headed back to the dorm not giving her a second to argue or even comment. When I stepped back into the room Nathan was sitting on the bed staring at the floor on the opposite side of the room. All whilst my roommate (who's name I still don't know) was staring at him. I walk over to where she is standing and extend my arm while saying my name.

"Hi my name is Taylor sorry about my mom she is jus-"

" Overprotective, yah I get. My name is Stephanie but you can call me Steph. That's Angela."

Once the girl heard her name her head snapped up and she waved at me. Then Steph looked at my hand shoved it down and hugged me. It was a little shocking at first but I didn't mind. I'm a hug person. I hadn't noticed but Nathan had gotten up and was standing right behind me. Steph then told me that she was going to meet up with some friends at a coffee shop and that she would catch up with me later. Then and only then does my mother walk back into the room and help me unpack my bedding and get some of the essentials out of my boxes. By this time it's around four and if Nathan and my mom wanna get home before night fall they have to leave right away. I walk then down to the car and hug my mom about a million and one times before she starts to tear up.

"Mom don't cry, I'm gonna be fine and you're visiting next weekend right?"

"Yeah, but you're just so grown up!" She says in between like forty sniffles and wiping if tears.

" Don't use that cliche line mom! You'll embarrass me!" I responded only half-joking. After that she starts to laugh and gets into the car so that I can say goodbye to Nathan. He wraps his arms around my waist and leans in for a kiss. When I step away, avoiding his kiss he asks me what's wrong. I don't respond and he pulls away from me. When I turn back and smile at him he sighs and picks me up as I wrap my legs around his waist. Then I kiss him like no one is watching even though everyone is. After a second or two I hop down say I love you and tell him I'll see him next weekend. He responds with a We'll see and winks at me whilst getting in the car. I watch them drive from the steps until I can no longer see the silky black Range Rover my mom bought when I was fifteen.
