“Either stand down, or you shall die, Trick.” A hero said, dressed in a tight fitting latex outfit. They appeared fairly confident in their ability, which they haven’t shown yet. “I have super powers, everyone in the city knows you’re just a smart criminal with no abilities. It feels almost unfair to defeat you, Trick.” They laughed.
Trick turned around, his fox mask looking straight into the eyes of the masked hero. He said nothing but just below his mask was a smirk. “You must feel so confident having defeated Sage, but trust me we ar-“ The hero managed before he noticed Trick was running. “Where do you think you’re going?” The hero asked as he flew up into the air and looked down at the fox-masked person. Trick pulled out a weird shaped object as the hero noticed him duck behind a dumpster. Suddenly, an explosion sounded in the middle of the street that just nearly hit the hero that was flying in the sky. The impact from the explosion caused the hero to fall concious as he fell to the ground. Trick peaked around the corner of the dumpster. He stood up and then walked away, heading more into the alley.
“Dad, did you hear that?” A young woman, who was walking beside an older man, said.
“I did. What the hell was that?” He responded, looking around. “It sounded like an explosion... get inside the station.” He demanded, practically shoving her inside the police station.
“Lieutenant, we just recieved a call about the noise of an explosion scaring some people in town.” A receptionist woman said.
“Do we know where it is?”
“Most reports are from people in Juniper Avenue.”
“Then I’ll check there. Keep an eye on my daughter.”
“Dad, I’m not a kid. I can help.”
“No, Alice. I’ve told you before. I don’t want to risk there being extra bombs and you getting hurt. Now, just. I’ll be going.” The lieutenant grabbed his long jacket and headed out the door without saying goodbye. Alice waited a second then turned around and headed out the same door her dad left through. She went into her car and started it up. Her dad backed up out of the parking lot and drove away.
The lieutenant arrived at the supposed crime scene and saw that many other cop cars were already on the scene. “Hello, Lieutenant Sawyer.” A cop said, approaching the lieutenant.
“Hello, Mr. Peters. What happened here?”
“Well. A bomb seems to have exploded on the road. It doesn’t seem like anything happened other than major damage to the road and some surrounding buildings.”
“Do we have any suspects?”
“Not yet. It seems the perpetrator fled before we could get here.”
Alice approached the crime scene. She quickly parked her car in a nearby alley when she saw someone near the end of her headlights reach. “Who are you?” Alice asked, stepping out of her car, gun in hand. The dark figure turned around, his mask resembled that of a fox. He had a body tossed over his shoulder. “Is that a- drop the person, Fox!” Alice demanded, a quiver in her voice from fear. Her hands were shaking as the masked man dropped the body. “G-good! Now just-“ Alice got closer and realized the masked person was Trick. “Wait... you must’ve been the cause of the noise I heard earlier. I don’t want trouble, just-“ A smile formed under Trick’s mask as he reached for something in his pocket. Alice didn’t want to anger the fox man so she lowered her gun. Out of Trick’s pocket came a round silver object. He held it out in front of him as he dropped it. Smoke filled the air as Alice began to cough. She looked up and he was gone, along with the body.
The lieutenant approached the rubble. He noticed remains of what seemed like a bomb and also some blood. Suddenly, he heard a familiar voice. “Dad! Dad! I- I think I know what happened here...” His daughter, Alice, said as she was gasping for air like she ran a mile.
“I thought I told you not to follow me.”
“Just, listen, will you?”
“Fine, go on.”
Alice inhaled. She quickly explained what just happened.
“Trick you say? I doubt he’d do something as outrageous as this if he was trying to keep his presence unknown. He must be planning something, hey what was that body you mentioned?”
“Well, it was mostly covered with a red cloth but when he dropped it I noticed that it looked as if it had black ash on it and some blood.”
“Well, black ash and some blood? No signs of missing or blown up limbs?”
“No?”
“Well, I believe I can conclude what happened. Thank you, Alice, just don’t do it again.”
Lieutenant Sawyer and Alice arrived back at the police station. “I need to see the chief, Marie.” The lieutenant asked, as the receptionist buzzed him in. Sawyer walked into the chief’s office. “I think I’ve finally figured out who’s been killing all the heroes, Chief.” The lieutenant sat down in front of the chief as he rearranged his papers.
“And, who would that be?”
“Trick.”
“Trick...? He’s been missing for weeks though. Why would he be killing heroes that aren’t even after him?”
“Well. The bounty on him was never cleared. How can you be sure he isn’t still hunted by heroes?”
“Well-”
“And another thing. My daughter, Alice, encountered him near the explosion. He was holding what appeared to be a human.”
“Never interrupt me again. But, that’s also the second time that’s happened. The- Shaun incident?”
“Like the back of my hand.”
The chief stood up and looked at his papers. “We’ll catch him.”
