Chapter one
April had had dreams about what meeting her mate would be like, but non was like this, no this was a nightmare but people forgot to mention that nightmares are also dreams.
It was her twenty first birthday, everything was going smoothly, the present table was overflowing with beautiful looking gifts, the cake was to be brung out shortly and everyone was enjoying themselves. That was all April could have asked for, she didn’t care about the presents or the big celebrations; the only thing that mattered was having her friends and family there.
Joyous laughter filled the room, people were talking, dancing and overall enjoying themselves but that all came to a sudden stop as the killings began.
It was a complete and utter blood bath, all the twenty five guest dead, stone cold dead. The only one standing was April herself, she couldn’t breathe, she couldn’t move. A trickle of blood touched her foot, it was still warm, snapping out of gaze she focused her full attention on the invaders now pouring through the broken windows.
“Mate, mate is here I can smell her, she smells divine” said her wolf belle. April came out as gay two years ago, it wasn’t easy, her parents were pissed, completely and utterly pissed. That was just who she was, she wasn’t going to change who she was just to make her parents and other people happy. If she was happy, then that was all that mattered.
“What do you want?” April demanded with much more strength than she had.
“You, we want you.” Her voice sounded like the pitter patter of rain on a window.
“Alright then but do you mind explaining to me why you had to kill half of my pack just to get to me?” April said with a raised eyebrow.
“Well yes, I could have done it the boring way but it was so much more fun to do it this way, don’t you agree?” The audacity of this woman. April scoffed and rolled her eyes.
“Right then chop chop, I don’t have all day let’s get this over and done with.” The intruders all stopped still, mouth agape. “Aren’t you going to grab me already? If I agree to you taking me, you leave my pack alone, you do not come within a hundred miles within my territory, do you hear me and most importantly you do not harm them; if I hear you’ve touched one hair on their innocence heads I will rip you to shreds.” By this time the rest of her pack and formed a protective semicircle behind her.
“Agreed, now you will tell your pack to back off and start walking towards me with your hands raised where I can see them.” April did as she was instructed, slowly walking towards her mate.
“We love you April, please be safe and know that we are always here for you.” Her pack mind linked in unison. She was on the verge of tears but she would not let them fall, for that would show weakness and showing weakness to your enemy is like signing your death sentence.
April’s mate grabbed her by the waist and started to drag her towards the exit. Her pack in tow.
“I never caught your name, what is it?” April’s wolf had gone dead still, listening eagerly to know the name of her beloved.
“Not that it’s any of your business but I’m Juniper, Juniper west.” Her name was so fitting, like it was made just for her. “What about you little one, am I aloud a name to put to that beautiful face?”
“Not that it’s any of your business,” April mimicked. “I’m April, April Young.”
She practically shivered of delight, at the tingles she felt from the mate bond. They neared a black car, multiple actually, to be exact there was about ten or so. One after another they rolled away from the side entrance and into the woods, Five minutes later April was doing the same thing.
She was seated between her mate and the window, they sitting quite close, so close that their legs brushed from time to time. Having nothing to do April stared out the window at her beautiful surroundings, the forest was always her favourite place to be, it was so peaceful and quite, it felt like no could harm you but she was wrong for the world was a harsh harsh place.
The drive had felt like hours, April started to drift of to sleep when she heard her mate whisper “I’m sorry we had to meet like this little one, but I promise to always protect and love you until the day I die.” After that she slept silently, wishing this had all been a dream.
