Short Story

“I dare you.”

“I double dog dare you.”

“I triple dog dare you!!”

“Okay fine,” I shot back, rolling my eyes, “What do I have to do again?”

“Follow me,” my best friend John insists.

I followed him down a long dark eerie hallway.

I shivered. This house gives me the creeps.

“This way...”

He pointed to a bathroom.

We both went in.

“Okay…” he began to explain after turning the lights on, “the object of the game is to light a candle in front of a mirror, say your name three times, and wait...”

“… Wait for what?”

“I didn’t finish,” he took a deep breath then continued talking, “Some people say the person you see in your reflection is actually your evil twin that’s stuck in the mirror, just waiting for you to play the game so they can be free; you think you can handle it?”

“Oh yeah, piece of cake,” I said with confidence.

After I was done I opened the door and greeted John.

He looked anxious; waiting for me to tell him my experience.

“So?”

“It didn’t work,” I stated, disappointed.

“Oh well, it’s just a stupid game anyways. Want to play some video games?”

“Sure but just give me a second.”

John gives me a nod and left.

I go back in the bathroom and stare at myself in the mirror.

“YOU BASTARD, get me out of here!” my reflection screamed in horror.

I gave a huge smirk.

“This is my life now.”

I closed the door behind me; still with the smirk on my face, and joined John to play some video games.
