LEAVING HOME;

Ivy Black

My eyes fluttered open.

β€œFred- is that you? What do you-” I stuttered, looking over at the clock on my nightstand, which read 4:17 A.M.

β€œIvy, get up. Mum sent me to tell you.” Fred said in a gravelly voice. He shook my shoulder.

I sighed. I propped myself up on my elbows and looked up at the tall readhead looming over me. I waited for my eyes to adjust to the darkness.

β€œFred,” I said, yawning.

β€œMm?” He hummed.

β€œThe train doesn’t leave until, what, 11:00? I reckon I’ve got a while longer to sleep.” I said and turned over on my side. He quickly rolled me over and pulled me up by my shoulders. β€œGod, Frederick-”

β€œGod, Ivy, everyone else is already up. You haven’t packed, either. Get up! even Ginny’s up, and you know how she is in the morning. Mum’s given her coffee." He said.

I looked over at Ginny’s empty bed beside me.

β€œCoffee?” I scoffed. β€œAnd I thought molly would have known better.” I said while slowly standing up. β€œNow get out.” I shoved him lightly.

β€œOkay , ’ll leave, just make sure you don’t get straight back into bed, darling.” He teased.

β€œYou just expect the worst in me, don’t you?” I scoffed.

He grinned and shut the door behind him.

I finished getting dressed, threw on a couple swipes of makeup and grabbed my trunk.

I came down the steps in the Leaky Cauldron and saw the Weasley family plus Hermione and Harry sitting there.

β€œIvy, hey!” Hermione said as I sat down. She's always been quite perky and alive in the mornings, I would die to be like that. I can't wake up in the morning for the life of me.

β€œHi, Hermione. Excited for third year?” I asked, starting to eat.

β€œOh, yeah! I’ve taken loads of classes, I’m really looking forward to it!” she explained, and I nodded.

β€œHermione’s taking all twelve classes, I don’t bloody know how she’s going to do it.” Ron said, looking at Hermione with a rather dazed expression.

β€œAll of the classes? Hermione, you’ll be so overworked! you’d best drop a few. I know, in my third year, I was exhausted and I didn't take nearly that many classes.” I said.

β€œI’ll be okay, Ivy, really.” Hermione said.

I already knew how stubborn Hermione was, so I knew she wouldn't budge at this. I rubbed her shoulder and went back to eating.

Only moments later, Molly said, β€œOkay everyone, time to get to the train! Is everyone ready?”

__

β€œBye, dear. Be safe this year. As for you too, boys.” Molly cupped my face in her hands and gave me a kiss on the forehead. She treated me like a daughter, something i’ve never remembered feeling before. See, I reckon my parents left at such a young age I can't recall any time spent with them. Sucks for me.

β€œThank you, Molly.” I smiled and gave her a hug. β€œCome on, ron.” I said.

Ron came trotting over, along with Hermione and Harry. Those three were inseperable, I swear, I’ve never seen them without each other.

β€œOhh, boys, I’ll miss you so much!” Molly exclaimed and gave Ron, Fred, and George a giant hug. Harry and Hermione slightly snickered. β€œyou as well, Ginny, come here!” Molly said with a bright smile and wrapped her arms around the small girl.

β€œOh, come on, Mum.. the train’s gonna leave!” Ginny groaned. I giggled and grabbed the arms of both twins.

β€œBye, molly! We’ll miss you!” I yelled over my shoulder as i dragged the two boys away, holding onto our trolleys tightly. I led them over to the brick pillars between platforms 9 and 10.

β€œSee you, boys!” I shouted, as i ran into the wall, shutting my eyes, and soon I felt myself enter platform nine and three quarters. I looked back to see Fred and George walk through the pillar, followed by Ron, Hermione, and Harry, of course.

β€œYou guys are slow.” I said and rolled my eyes at the two ginger twins approaching me.

They smirked. β€œOh, that’s bullshit. You ran at full speed, what were we supposed to do, Ives?” George joked, slapping my shoulder playfully. I gave him a harsh scowl before heading up to the train.

Once we’d found a compartment with Lee Jordan, I sat down in-between Fred and George, Lee on the other side across from us. unconsciously, my head rolled to the side and onto Fred’s shoulder as the boys fell into a light conversation and i started to drift off.
